Are there any alternative IMAP email clients for Android? On Verizon's Droid, the installed email application is pretty awful. It is missing a whole slew of standard functionality available on every email client I've ever used (including every Palm phone I've owned going back 7 years, also iPhone and webOS), like moving mail to folders, configuring Sent/Trash folders, etc.
I tried K9 but it crashes after the first configuration screen. It hasn't been updated since May.
Is there any hope of having even a remotely reasonable email client? So far Android is very cool but the email client really is abysmal.
Any information greatly appreciated...

If you're looking for a mobile email solution that provides real-time updates for all your email accounts, work, personal..., and is optimized for battery life, you might want to try the SEVEN client from Android. Try it at http://preview.seven.com

I have a Samsung moment, and have tried seven. I went to register, went to android, then all, and grabbed the apk file, installed it. When I go to setup the account it just sits there forever, I have let it sit for upwards of about 10-15 mins, and just finally ended it and gave up on it. I am assuming it is because they don't support Samsung Moments right now, but I could be wrong, other than that I am doing everything correctly. Samsung comes preloaded with 1.5 cupcake, and the gmail app and email app, both have issues, IE: cannot empty trash, because they just keep returning, email notifiy doesn't seem to work correctly, email gets directed to all mail or other folders for whatever reason, I have even had email show up in gmail thru the web but doesn't show up in my inbox. I really hope that gmail/google, Samsung, or sprint (whoever may be resposibe for the updates) get this worked out, and a new patch/update will fix this, because haveing to keep going online all the time is rather annoying, thats why they have the email and gmail app, I ahve also tried k9, but I get a ton of errors, so until thats worked oout I will stick with going via online for now.
Update: I just stumbled onto a beta version of k9 for download. I am currently useing it and it seems to work better with less errors. While a little sluggish at times its tollerable. I would like to help test if you need a body with a newer phone out to test with please feel free to let me know my email is easyrider77@gmail.com. I have a new Samsung moment and 2 gmail account and I can add more for testing if needed I still have 50 invites left so I might as well use them for somthing lol. Please let me know if I can help, I would love to fix the email issues with gmail asap.

Sorry if someone asked this before. I am on IMAP here at work. I don't like the GMail set up on the phone, and the "regular" email is just OK. (Annoying that you cant assign a signature though). All the research I have done leads me to Touchdown. Here is my question finally: Can I not use this because I am not on an exchange server? I have tried K9, and again, they are OK, but I think the closest email to my old blackberry is Touchdown. Help with any suggestions please.
thanks
Chris

Too bad. Have you heard of anyone else? Seven looks good, but not available to Verizon Wireless.
thx

Have you tired MailDroid? https://slideme.org/application/maildroid
1.00 will be released in the next few days and will have the capability to set your trash folder as well as many more features.

I have just tried this out and it works brilliantly - no other client I have found works properly with my IMAP server.

Call me paranoid but I don't want the IMAP client running on my mobile device to store my account passwords. In both Windows Live Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird if you don't enter a password when setting an account up then the application prompts you for the password at the time that you request any access to any folders of that account. Are there any IMAP clients available for Android that can handle authentication in that way rather than requiring passwords for storage at the time of setting the account up?
