when i power on my phone, after the g1 and android splash screens, it displays a pitch black screen with the backlight on, but nothing on the screen.
prior to this it worked fine. the problem may be that i installed too many apps. the phone displayed a low memory message when it still worked. i uninstalled an app and installed a different app to replace it. shortly after it crashed and is giving me these symptoms.
i have tried leaving it on in hopes of it working through the problem. i have tried turning it on in safe mode. nothing registers any kind of response except removing the battery, which turns it off.
is there anything i can do to fix this problem??
any help is appreciated.

Turn off the phone . Power on pressing the home and power buttons together , keep pressing the home button for 5 more seconds . When the big exclaimation point comes up , press alt+L , then press alt+w to wipe the phone , then reboot and try to boot up . Good luck :)

thank you. but i was hoping to keep the data on the phone. if there is no other way to fix it, then i was going to wipe the phone. is there any other method i can try first? maybe safe mode or something?

have you tried importing your contacts on your sim to what ever phone your using?
and i think after you do a reset you can sign back in using your gmail account and go to the market and it should have a list of your previous apps and just download them again
