I just got a Motorola Droid and I am loving it.
The only thing I am missing so far is the ability to mark my place in the middle of a long mp3 file. My Insignia MP3 player has a bookmark function that lets me save my place and come back to it. Much like a save game function.
Does anyone know if I can do that with my Droid as is and I just haven't figured out how or if there is a music app that will give me that functionality?
Thanks.

i'm not having that problem. I load Howard Stern shows that are 5 hours long and they get bookmarked OK. Shut it off, start back at same place.

If I just shut it off then it starts back in the same place but what if you play a different file or switch to playing music. How do you get back to the place in the show that you left from?

Just to double check I just tried it and it does not remember where it was.

Please try Astro Player. It has advanced bookmarking functionality for better audiobooks and podcasts support. Astro Player is available on the Android Market. It's still in beta and could be unstable. However, it's free during beta period. Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed. More info at www.astroplayer.com/forum (http://www.astroplayer.com/forum)

I do have one suggestion though after using it for a bit. It would be nice if there was an easy way to exit the app.

Thanks for the feedback. We use pause and back buttons in order to stop the app. If this is not convenient for you, let us know and we will add direct close process functionality (i.e. the exit button in the menu)

As it is now the app stays open in my notification bar. That is a good feature and I like that it does that when I am using it but it would be nice if there was a way to completely close the app and free up the memory when I am not using it.
Thanks.

Ok, in the next build we will include the option that activates an exit button. This button closes the app's process completely.

Yep. I found it this morning when it updated. It works great. Thanks!
I had a couple of other thoughts after using the software for a while now.
#1) A way to add files to a playlist by simply doing a long hold on them in their folder and opening a pop-up to add them to either an existing playlist or to create a new one. One of the drawbacks to the basic music player that ships with the droid is that it lists all the files individually and won't show them in their folders on the sd card. I like that your player shows them in the folders but it only lets me make a playlist from a complete folder. It would be nice if I could create playlists of multiple files from different folders.
#2) An equalizer for different types of music. It could just have some basic presets like "rock", "dance", "jazz", "bass boost", "audiobook" or something like that. The windows program Winamp is a good example of how that sort of thing works.
#3) A way to clear the bookmark list as it tends to look a little cluttered after you save quite a few bookmarks. I save on average two a day and my bookmark list is getting long now. :)
Thanks again for a great music player and other apps. I appreciate all your hard work.

Thanks. FYI, we are developing only Astro Player. We are not related to any other 'astro' apps.
1. It's on the list. In near future it will be ready. However, already now we support any number of sub-directories and files for the single playlist.
2. Equalizer is also on the list. More details:

3. Thanks for the hint, it will be available in one of the coming builds.

I downloaded Astro player today from the marketplace and each time I try to open it to run it I get the following error:
"The application astro player bets (process com.astroplayerbeta) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Any suggestions?

The app is still in beta. Therefore, there are still some bugs in it. Today we've fixed some of them and released v1.8. Please try v1.8. If it doesn't help, please let me know.

It's ready in v1.10. Use "menu > bookmarks > menu > delete stale bookmarks"

Check out the equalizer in v1.22 (for mp3 files only)

Hello Andrew,
I am looking for an alternative MP3 player for my android device, that supports bookmark settings for audiobooks.
One thing is preventing me from installing your Astroplayer:
Your app is asking for many rights that an audio-/video-player doesn't need in my opinion: why it needs access to my location, to my contacts, to my personal informations, to my accounts, to my global system settings and logs?!
Thanks,
Markus
