Ive had the g1 for almost a month now and the camera has never properly functioned. Its constantly looking rainbowy and animated when I try to take a picture. Sometimes i can switch it to video and then back to camera and it will take the picture a little less rainbowy, but still... NOT a normal looking picture.

Im scared to send the phone off with Tmobile to be fixed because i dont want to use a temporary phone in the meantime. Does anyone have any sugggestions?

To clarify: In ALL lighting conditions, my phone takes pictures that look like they should be in a comic book.

Have you tried a factory reset? If you call T-Mo and they decide it's a hardware problem the will send you a new or refurbished G1, minus the back and battery. You will have about 5 days to return the old phone.

I took it to Tmobile. they were very unhelpful. They werent even going to try a factory reset until i mentioned it. it didnt work :(

I want the problem fixed and im entitled to a new phone or a repair since im withing 30 days. what im scared of is that i will send this phone off and then be forced to use a temporary phone while still paying for the services of a G1. Im worried the repairs will take too long to fix and that Ill be stuck with a bad phone.

I had a problem with my first G1, called T-Mo PDA support, they couldn't over the phone fix it so sent me a phone and sent my old one back. Don't bother with those idiots in the T-Mo stores.
