So let me get this straight, I can buy a cheap G1 and modify the ROM to the HTC Sense or to straight Android 2.0 or to Cyanogen or ANY modification and I won't have performance problems?

Sorry, but it just sounds too good to be true. Should I not spend money on an advanced phone then?

Oh yeah, and will I be able to bring the mod with me to my next Android phone?

Well it simple terms yes, but with some flaws...You will be able to throw on hero roms and cyanogen but as far as I know there is not 2.0 rom yet (it will be here soon) and performance- Hero roms are a little buggy, cyanogen will have you running better than a stock G1...The thing you may worry about would be the processor and internal capacity of the G1, other phones are getting faster processors and much more memory (with apps to SD your good)...some say we wont get 2.0 some say we will..we have a lot of it on cyanogen right now so people don't really mind..but if your on tmo I would't waste more money than you have to on the MT3G or Cliq you wont see an enormous difference in performance if any imo

The only performance issues you will have will be greatly enhanced performance from the stock G1.

if you get a cheap g1 , put cyanogenmod on it , you will not regret it . consider it a fast return on your investment :)
