exchange server problems

I just got a Motorola droid on Verizon. Everything is working great except for the Email app it comes with (the Gmail app is working fine). I enter my exchange credentials (I even did it with our IT support person standing with me), and it tells me it can't open the exchange server.

We're using a 2003 server and the IT support person thought that that may be the problem, but I wanted to check if any of you know of any issues or maybe workarounds.

I was able to get mine working using the URL of the outlook web client we use. When I am at work I get the email on my desktop outlook the same time as my Droid. I know there are some issues with having to pay for exchange access but I am not sure if that is true or not because there has been some mis information about this as far as i am concerned.

avantnoise, thanks! Using the web address worked. It's frustrating that the "real" exchange server was unresponsive, but this is totally satisfactory. I appreciate the response.
