I downloaded a third party sms/mms from the app store. The problem I'm having is that both the standard text app and the downloaded app receive the text. Now, I have to delete text from both apps. I did turn the notifications off, but not the app itself.
Thanks

They will still appear in both apps. The point is not to get notifications for both. Disable one. That's all you can do.

The problem is there's no obvious way to disable the native messaging app's notification. You still get two envelopes (if you're using Handcent) in the window and if you disable the Handcent notification, you can't go from the Notifications window to the app directly, as the only notification that will appear is the native client app notification.
This is a major problem for me, one making me consider bringing the phone back.

Yes you can... Just go into the native apps settings and turn notification off
Furthermore I thought that if you deleted your messages they are gone no matter what app your using.

I'm guessing you don't have this phone, as there IS NO OPTION to disable the notifications in this version of the native Android messaging application.
I had a rooted G1, and know my way around Android decently enough.

this thread is confusing
if you downloaded handcent and you are still receiving two notifications you have to follow what derrick said to stop notifications from the stock messaging app
you can not stop the stock app from also storing texts, but you can stop it from notifying you of a new text message

What phone are you using? The Moment? I know you know your way around android and all, but here are the steps anyway...
open stock messaging app
hit menu
under "notification settings", uncheck "notifications"

I HAD the Behold II, and I assure you, there is no notification option in the stock messaging app. Samsung tech help comfirmed this for me. There is no way to disable the native messaging clients notifications.

Sorry, but the Behold II has no way of turning of the stock messaging notification. Read the post " Behold II review". That option is just not there and a bunch of Behold II owners have same problem.

It would be helpful if people who do not have a Behold II would stop trying to answer these kinds of questions. It just makes things confusing for people who are not familiar with the android OS.

The OP, jljr99 (http://androidcommunity.com/forums/members/jljr99-58070.html), never mentioned the Behold in his/her post, so how do we know he/she isn't using the Samsung Moment? What - Z - posted is correct on the Moment.

Well you all should also know that the messages are stored in a database in the phone in one place and no matter what sms app you use it can see that database, they are not stored in the app it self

It would be awesome if handcent could implement a way to disable native texting into their options.

Just go to the setting in the stock app and disable the notifaction. Its not that hard.

There is no way to disable the Notification on the Behold II handset, as previously posted by multiple user.
RTFM or in this case RTFT.
