so after i successfully installed cmod 2.4.2.... i decided to get the voice nav through maps. low and behold...problems...again. nothing can be so simple.
i'm following the 25step process. my problems start with #9. when i try to remove the maps and nonsense with the terminal emulator.... i get the same error for most of the following "rm" steps. "cant remove ****, so such file or directory.
umm....
little help?

Try rebooting after you do the cp /sdcard of the three builds, build, trout and sapphire. After reboot do the install of maps and reboot again. That is what I did, got the no such file on all the rm's. I did this one.

1-8 reboot then 22-24 and reboot. Your maps won't be google maps, just maps.

just tried it. nothing. i dont understand whats wrong. i got the "no such file" nonsense...which would make me think that i didnt do it right. but google maps is gone... but i dont see regular maps in my tray. cant i just install the .apk file with astro or something?
i just read up on some themes. is there a theme that has the updated maps in it? would it be easier to just install? cuz obviously terminal emulator hates me.

ok...so after going back and trying...again...and again...and once more...nothing.
the initial time i did it, i was able to remove the apps under system/app/*Maps* and the counter system/app/*maps*.... the dalvik caches and the apps under system/sd/apps i can not delete. i get the no such file or directory. i'm also getting that now with the apps under system/app...considering i deleted those in one of my previous tries.

absolutely.
i find it odd that the apk file for maps is a 0k size file. is that supposed to be?

ok...so the apk file on my sd card was 0k. i found that odd. i reloaded it onto my sd...and it came back to 2.5mg. great. instead of going through terminal emulator...i used astro to install the .apk. i now have the "maps" app on my phone. i'm tryin to figure out how to make it talk now.

Hi guys,
I've installed the new navigation maps, now I've got layers and there are some few differences. However, I cant get turn by turn navigation to work. I live in Norway, and I'm guessing it doesnt work outside the US. Anyone here tried it outside the US?
Does anyone know why it doesnt work outside US? Has google blocked off all other users?

Yes currently it does not work outside of the US. :) There is a think tank going on over at XDA trying to figure out ways to get it to work.
