Gmail app not showing first message in thread

Has anyone else had the problem in the Gmail app where the first message in certain conversations doesn't show up? I searched the forum but didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

For example, I have a conversation with 11 e-mails in it. When I see the conversation in a list (such as in label view or all mail view), it correctly shows that there are 11 messages. But when I open the conversation, it shows the last message open, and says there are "9 read messages" collapsed. The very first message is the one that is missing. This only happens for some conversations, but I'm not sure what differentiates these conversations from others that show up properly.

Has anyone else seen this problem? I'm on the Motorola Droid.

EDIT: When I go to Gmail through the Android browser or on my PC, all messages in the conversation appear correctly.

I have the same problem.

I find that the only way to bring the missing messages in the conversation thread back onto the gmail app on the phone is to delete the cache and local storage from the two apps associated with gmail on the phone.

Anyone else have ideas about why this happens and/or a less annoying fix?
