GMAIL question

I set up my gmail account and my old email accounts are transferring perfectly. However, it deletes them out of my old email accounts and I want to keep the copies there so that I can manually delete them. Am I missing something simple?

When I had to transfer my pop3 to Gmail (because of the lousy pop app on G1), I actually had my pop account COPY my Gmail, not transfer. That way I had, of course, copies even if I deleted them from Gmail.
