I haven't found one in the market yet, but if there is one, could you point me in the right way?

I am used to a different tone for when I receive a new MMS, SMS, email. (Windows Mobile)
From what I have found, by default, you can not do this, but I am sure you could with an app.
Has anyone come across a decent app yet that lets me do this?

specifically I am looking to shut tones off for email, but not text.

(using Moto Droid)

Thank in advance everyone!!!!

So u still want the status bar notification right just no tone??
If not you can disable the status bar noti. and that will cancel your tone also but I haven't seen an app for just the tone...if u get desperate lol just make a sound file with no sound and use it

Have you tried going to the email settings section, clicking "select ringtone", and selecting "silent"?

Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean.

I am thinking of an app, that is very simple.
When you open it, there is a lsit

email
mms
ssm

and when you select one, you pick the ring tone for it.
Instead of opening email, settings, nofification
open mms, setting, etc. etc.

maybe I will make this my first project and make it myself. :D

There are a number of apps out there that will help you with this.

SMS Popup lets you set different ringtones including silent for different users. It lets you change the led color and blink speed for default and each user. and lets pops up a window with your text if you want.

handcent SMS (NEW) does all of the above but also goes a little deeper into managing your sms messages. You can customize the look of your text screens and gives you the ability to voice type your messages. (I'm not sure if this works on 1.5 or not. I have 1.6)

These are 2 that I have tried. I like both, but I found handcents to be better for what I use it for.

As a side note, I also use a little program called SMS Backup that backs up all SMS messages to your gmail account under a label called SMS. Very usefull if you like to go back and see previous conversations or need to find a link someone sent you after you've deleted it from your phone.
