On the G1, is it possible to stop the camera from making the shutter sound when taking a picture (Other than putting the phone into silent mode)? Thanks for the help, peace and love homies.

There are apps that will let you do it. I have Snap Photo and it lets you turn it off

Do I get to still use the stock camera app or do I need to use that camera app?

well it's a camera app. So it uses the the new app. But it's loaded with alot of features, so is much better than stock app. There's a free version and a paid version.

I mean, you can use SnapPhoto or the stock app still. But if you want an option like no shutter sound, then you will need to use SnapPhoto

Just get into silent or vibrate mode, the stock camera app won't make any sound.

If you never want the sound again and you're rooted and have used ADB before (That's quite a few requirements....) you can use:

adb remount
adb shell rm -f /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
