I once had an app months ago and I forgot what the name of it was. It was able to track a lost phone, remote wipe, etc...

Anyone know? Thanks

No- it wasn't any of those. This app had its own website with a login. It was polished. Looked good and had a lot of features.

Okay - you got me intrigued so I did some Google'ing ....

SMobile Security Shield for Android is the first antivirus and security suite available to protect Google's revolutionary new mobile device operating system. The remote wipe and GPS locate functions enable the user to easily locate a lost or stolen device and if necessary, issue a wipe command to remove personal and SD Card data.

Found here --> http://download.cnet.com/SMobile-Anti-Theft-for-Android/3000-2056_4-10922286.html

Its not a free app ... $19.99 per year ...!!

I think that's it! Yea, I used it while in beta and it was free. Sucks they now charge... What's the cloesest thing to this that's free or under $5 as a one time fee?

I couldn't find anything else in Google that quite fit the bill in a single package. But I reckon that you could use a suite of Wheres My Droid and one of a number of Remote Wipe (by SMS) to achieve the same thing.

The thing is, all of these kind of solutions are useless if the "perp" changes the SIM. Even MobileMe is neutered by this. What is really required is something that can track by IMEI regardless of what SIM is in the handset. But that would take a huge collaboration by the mobile network operators themselves.

Perhaps you were thinking of Mobile Defense? The only hitch is that the program is not available for CDMA (Verizon) until it comes out of closed beta testing.

MotoBlur has a nice find my phone feature

I had MobileDefense on my G1 and it worked great until an upgrade and then it stopped working. They still send me emails saying "your phone is not protected" because I uninstalled it.

SMS Commander is a simple "find my phone" app.
4 features:
1)message back to me its location
2)turn on ringer, loud
3)turn on vibrate
4)turn on silent

it notifies the phone with an SMS message, so not real good for tracking the kids....

Go to WWW.mylookout.com (formerly flexilis). Anyone have any experience with this free antivirus Droid app?

Just to ask a stupid question: I presume all of these rely on the mobile network to find the phone? Cause, I just got back from Boston and found that using Google Maps with GPS was dead-on, using the network was always off by at least a 1/4 mile (same here at home, in Malibu). What's really needed is T-Mobile NOT happily unlocking stolen phones for people, which they will do.

mobile defense locates by gps, if gps is enabled. not sure about others.

I think my buddy uses Mobile Defense. Last week he couldn't find his phone to save his life. He checked it's location but couldn't get a good location on it since it just used towers to give him a rough idea; however, he was able to narrow it down to the airfield. So he turned on the alarm remotely, walked out to the last aircraft we flew and baddabing, there it was. The crew chiefs were thinking WTF? lol

Yeah, it was Mobile Defense he used. Had GPS been on he could've located it more accurately.

I think "Where's my Android" is the one. It's nice with few good features. An explanation or the function of the app you're referring could help finding it.
