Ok,

something wierd is happening,
I have a HTC Magic - Vodafone - Spain, for almost, 6 months. Wonderfull handset, never gave me any problems.

Until yesterday.

It all started when I tried to acces my Market, and I recieved this message(translated by myself to english):

"To access this aplication you need to enable Data Reference. Do you want to enable it?"

YES

a button that was always enabled seemed to loose its hablility to stay "checked", every time I checked it, and left the setting screen, It would become "uncheck".

So that prevented me from access my Market app.

That went on for a while (some hours) I restarted my device a few times, untill at one occasion It miraculously went back to normal.

But then another problem started. The little "House" button on the left of the device stopped working.

You see, It dosnt perform its purpose anymore. But when the screen is on standby mode and I press the "home" button it activates my phone. That means it still works...

- Wierd setting changes.

-The "Allow instalation of aplications that are not from Android Market" was cheked, I never did that...

-My phone always had that "unblock" screen, for when you activated it from standby mode. Itīs gone, and I didnt change it.

Now this fact is a maybe:
- My incoming message tone, changed by itself. I say its a maybe because maybe I never had heard it at all because I almost always use my phone muted.

So, there are the facts, any clues?

Weird. You could try downloading and running the droidsecurity antivirus package. If you can't get on the market Google the product - you can download the package from the maker's website and install it using the sync software. At least you can with a Hero...

Where are you in Spain? I love Spain...

Just before you do that, try starting your phone in safe mode. That will just load the core system without any add-on programmes etc. If it works okay like that it probably means one of your apps is playing up.

Now you're going to ask me how to start in safe mode and I can't remember. I think you hold the home key down when you start it, but check first! HTC support will tell you if no-one on here can.

Also, try taking the battery out for a minute. Apparently this is a soft reset. Check support FAQs on www.htc.com too...

Barcelona. What a great place. I spent a week there a couple of years ago in the summer (stayed in Poble Nous) and have been there for a couple of December weekends. You're really lucky !

Hope you sort out the magic,

Thanks Again pete...

indeed bcn rules! im brazilian and live here for 2 years already...

ok, back to the issue,

found 2 guys with the same problem at this forum:

http://androidforums.com/htc-magic/11929-home-button-call-button-not-working.html

and they had to Factory reset the phone...

So this is getting ridiculous I feel like I have a windows running on my Android Phone...

It is clearly a software problem because the buttons work bringing the phone out of standby mode.

- home button is not working
- call button is not working unless you're into the contacts application (doesn't work from home page)
-search button neither
- It doesn't asks for the unlock graphical code!

Tomorrow I will get in touch with the techical assistance, lets see if something happens...
