8gb or 16 gb micro sdhc and which class should i get 2, 4, 6, or ?

i have been doing some online shopping and i want to know what type of class is recommended on the memory card for the G1 and if i will have any problems if i get a 16gb?

Depends your budget and if you're going to use that space....
I personally would get the 16GB class 8, but I am not that rich :)

I got a 8gb class 8 for 43 bucks. But the class 8 was hard to find. Very few websites had them from what I could find and many of them wanted way too much money for them. Even the site I bought from was out the next day.

Good find. Some reviews are reporting Class 8 cannot be used to its full speed (class 8 = 8MB/s) while inside the cell-phone or PDA. Digital cameras and Card Readers will however utilize Class 8 on much better way.

I currently have 8GB Class 4 which gives me lots of space for my needs; class 6 would be nice - but did not matter to me.

My suggestion is get as higher class as you can get if you have money. Currently budget deal is definitely 8GB Class 4 for about 20-25$ shipped.

It has been changed already. According to official T-Mobile announcement phone will support 16GB cards out of box with no updates needed. Currently the google team is working I believe on 32GB card support.

I'm using a sandisk 8gb class 2 I've had laying around. Works fine with the jpg, mp4 and mp3 files I have stored on it. I probably won't get another card until 16gb cards are more readily available.

size depends on your personal preference. however, if you plan to run apps off your sd card i recommend class 4 and above.

Read speed on either class is probably more than enough for the G1 to handle. As for write speed it would theoretically help on apps like the camera but high speed shooting is out of the question since the camera is so slow.

Eh I still ordered a class 6 8GB, never know...

I recently bought an 8gb class 6 trancend microsdhc from newegg and I haven't had any problems yet. Only had it for a couple weeks though but trancend is a pretty good brand IMHO. Maybe not top quality but they do thier job. I've been using a 16gb trancend SD card for extra storage in my netbook for a while now and it works great. I'd get it (obviously) its a good deal.

The only thing you would need a class 6 for is if you are rooted and using apps2sd, other than that I don't think there will be any performance drop in whatever class you choose.

Micro SDHC 8 GB Class 6 would be best if you root and Apps2SD. Newegg has em for under $20 shipped like this one here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341).

Otherwise, if you don't root, no need to get Class 6 since the speed difference is probably negligible and you could go for something with more space.

For those of you who have rooted and run apps from your SD card, does a class 6 card really show a noticeable difference compared to a class 2 card when running apps? I have a 16 GB Class 2 card and I just recently rooted and put my apps on my SD w/ Cyanogen's rom. I haven't noticed any terrible lagging, but would a Class 6 card really provide a crisper experience?

I had an A-Data 4gb card that would not hold more than about 2gb. Switched to SanDisk and got much better performance.

I am using a 8gb class 2 and use Apps2SD and I have also moved my Dalvik-cache to the sd card. I do not see any lag or diff as to when I was not using Apps2SD. The speed is the same and I gained about 25 meg extra on my Hero moving the cache to the sd card. I have a 16 gig on the way. I am hoping the speed will be the same.

While I can't speak from Android-usage experience, my experience with SDHC cards has shown faster, even if imperceptible, is better, and generally the price isn't much if at all different when it comes to speed classes.

I've been using an A-Data 8GB Class 6 card on my handheld gaming system for over a year now. No slowdown, no problems. I got it from NewEgg.com for about $20 with an SD card adapter. I'm looking at getting another for my G1 (if not a 16GB) since I've found myself taking more pics with my phone than I thought I would.

I've also used Panasonic's SDHC card formatter to properly format my cart (which I've only had to do once on one my daughter was using.)
