I am sure a lot of people would be interested in this- would it be possible for some enterprising person at xda to port android over to the touch HD?

I am not sure what hardware etc is required for a phone to run android but am hopeful this woul dbe able to be done....

time for my first post in here

is there anything new about the possible release of a HTC touch HD with android OS?

i need it so damn much!

is anything said about a possilbe OS change from WMobile to android?

here in germany you can buy the new htc child in 1-2 weeks.. but there is nothing said about an android version or anything like that

i talked to HTC and to my calling-provider
both mentioned, that there is no known possiblity or service the let one of them change your OS to android

htc only mentioned, that you of course will lose your guaranty

*CRY OUT LOUD FOR HTC TOUCH HD /W ANDRIOD"

anything new here?

yes you are probably right ;)
i just can't wait, as many of you

and in the meanwhile i have a very few questions, where for i couldnt find specific informations yet

1 |
can i setup my htc touch hd to a german language, even if i buy it in the UK for exp.?
is this possible with android/wmobile?

2 |
are there any restrictions i have to make, if i won't buy it in germany (or especially not the official german version from our market)?
(US-guys lose 3g and voicemail i have read :( )

3 |
and because i am really no hardware-pro, what possible problems can occur, if u are installing android on your phone yourself? lets take the case, it is possible to install it by yourself(ok newbies like me with the help of a guide maybe ;p). should it be cappable of recieving patches through the web like the G1 f.exp? or are there validations for OS/Phone ect, so i can't get any further online support

android you shake my ass
android your apps are kind of evolutionary
android i love you

somone told me that the iPhone and g1 has a thing called heat sensor touch. And that means only your fingers can control the touch bc of the heat that runs off of it. I don't think the touch pro is heat sensor touch bc u can use a stylus . But I could be wrong .

so you better dont move to the arctic with your mobile ;-)

well i ve read something, that the touchscreen inside the htc touch HD is a lot worse, than the iphone's/g1's
and i dont know, if controlling android would need your mobile to have a special touchscreen

the operating is system is coded to work with the hardware that is currently in the phone... so yes, you'll have plenty of problems trying to port the android operating system to the touch hd... you won't be able to do it basically if you have no programming knowledge...

think about a personal desktop computer, if you add any new hardware onto the computer, there are drivers that need to be installed onto the OS in order for the hardware to work with your computer correctly... this is the same process with mobile devices, drivers need to be written for the operating system to work with it correctly

The other problem is no virtual keyboard. So even if you were able to do it, you can't really use it. But the chances start increasing once you have a virtual keyboard. So until then I'd say put it on the back-burner till it becomes more and more possible.

I've been using the Android port that a guy on XDA developers created for the HTC Touch (not HD). I have it running on my Sprint Touch and it works great, so it's possible to get it working on the Touch HD. Pretty much everything works on it except bluetooth and GPS. He created a virtual keyboard so that when you hit the Camera button on the phone, it switches to landscape mode and brings up an on-screen keyboard. It works great. The best part is it can be booted from within Windows Mobile, so when you want to go back to Windows, you just soft reset and you're back into the original OS.

There's videos on android on the Touch HD online, I've seen them but android runs quite buggy on the phone. With some posts, the colors were all off, giving weird psychadelic neon effects. The images on the screen also tend to "break" and glitch. The worst part is that android is being emulated by windows with a linux bootloader program. If anyone knows of a way to completely obliterate windows mobile from the HTC Touch HD, and then reflash it with android, that would be extremely helpful.
