Default Android PIM and Exchange Server

    Hi!

I'm wondering if Android or any thirdparty software PIM will be able
to connect to an Exchange Server? I think that is vital to any
business success and is number one on my very personal wish list for
    Android.

I'm looking at that bad implementation of Exchange access in those
leading PIMs for linux. The problem seems to me that they are all
trying to access Exchange via Exchanges Web-Access and not the "real"
    way.
Will that be different for Android solutions?

I'm curious to hear what you know!

    Best,
    Peter.

I have had a HTC Universal for years now and have it up to date with all the latest and greatest apps. I am giving up my beloved phone for the Dream but without a app for exchange I don't know if I'll be able to stay with it. My business pays for 1/2 of my phone service because I can connect to Microsoft Exchange. I too hope a app will come to connect to Microsoft Exchange. And I cant use web access to get my email.

I'm sure an app for Microsoft Exchange will be right around the corner. Its almost a standard these days with smart phones.

The thing is Exchange requires licensing, we'll have to see if a developer wiling to license it

Version 2 of the Iphone has full Exchange support. And I think they would have included it in the beginning if they had already realized how important that is for business-use.

Is there an insider around who knows more about what is in development around exchange for android? :-)

Version 2 of the Iphone not Android is what he was talking about. Yes I think IPhone realized they needed it and I hope Android or HTC realize too.

I have a Tmobile G1 and am using MailShadowG to sync Exchange w/ Gmail. All works as described with "push" email coming to the G1. Additionally, my contact and calendar from Exchange are sync'ed to my G1. There are a few drawbacks...I have to have a PC logged into Exchange with Mailshadow running. This is not an issue as I have a PC in my office running this app but it is not as clean as Activesync on WM6.1.

There are a few "sync" issues but they are mostly due to inconsistent feature sets between Gmail/Contact/Calendar & Exchange. None of the issues though prevents this solution from being usable.

MailshadowG is relatively inexpensive - $30/yr subscription. http://www.cemaphore.com and until there is a native G1 Activesync this is likely the best alternative

Thought it would be relevant to this discussion : www.nitrodesk.com runs entirely on your phone and can be setup and used in a few minutes. You can get your exchange information including email. calendar and contacts..
