Default Best method to backup phone?

What app/method is the best way to backup my phone? If I have to pay for an app, then I'll do it. For some reason, my phone just died and would only turn on to the bootloader (Red, green, blue screen) so I had to reflash everything to back to donut. Lost everything but thank goodness for syncing contacts to gmail.

What I mean by backup is EVERYTHING. Settings, assigned ringtones, wallpaper, etc etc etc.

    any recommendations?

I think MyBackupPro has a free trial version, should back up everything you need. May be some other options too. Backup for root does all that but if you are back to stock donut it's no good.

for a complete backup you can't beat Nandroid.

Nandroid Backup is a set of tools and a script that will enable anyone who has root on their G1 and has the engineering/dev spl bootloader [1] (or has a dev phone) + a recovery image with busybox and adbd running as root [2] to make full system backups

Thanks a lot for all the info guys. I honestly don't wanna root my phone because I don't know much about it. Only reason I would do it is if there's a completely 100% working, no problems ROM that has much better features than nonroot.

But yeah, I'll try out mybackuppro. I'm willing to pay $5 just to avoid having to reinstall everything on my phone and redo it all.

mybackup pro is good. if you decide to root, cyanogen's ROMs are basically 100% trouble-free, and faster than stock.
