Hi guys,
I'm looking for people who are willing to give my App a quick test before I put it on the App Market. Its just a simple counter App but it does have a few features.
I would like your thoughts on the following:-
Do you like the look of the UI?
Do you find it easy to use?
What additional features would you like to see?
Would you pay for this App, or one like it with more features?
Instructions for installing
Download zip file to your computer.
Plug your phone into computer and mount the SD card.
Unzip file and transfer counter.apk to the sdcard.
Change settings/Applications/Unknown sources on your phone to allow non market apps.
Install using ApkInstaller or AppsInstaller from the Market.
Instructions for use
Green buttons add to total Red subtracts from it. the blue button displays the count and pressing it resets to 0.
The Menu item Min/Max switches modes from simple counting (in single units only) to advanced counting (1's, 5's and 10's).
The Menu item switch sides reverses the sides for plus and Minus (usefull if you are left handed or are doing more subtracting then adding).
Please note the App will only count from-99 to 999. If you think this is not enough, let me know.
Thanks in advance for any comments.
*******UPDATE**************
Have removed the original file as the Appis now much improved and available on the App Market.

I'm not able to download it because I lost my connection cable during moval.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who would be interested in what you have to offer.
Just a suggestion, maybe you should describe what the app is in order to clear any suspicions of malicious apps.
Good luck![]()

It's called a G1

or maybe a screenshot and a better description of what the app is...
I thought I had discribed it, it's a simple app for counting things. on the scr een is a total and up to 6 buttons (green to Add, red to subtract). pressing the buttons changes the total, pressing the total zeros it. you can change from Min to Max mode (and back) and switch the buttons to the opposite sides (and back) via Menu options.
When you install the App you will see it requires no permissions so won't be e-mailing me your bank details or anything malicious like that.
I have now uploaded 3 pics. Showing the App in Min Mode, the Menu, and Max Mode.

Just installed on my phone, and it looks like ill be keeping it on there. For when I need to keep track of counting stuff. The UI could use some work, like I'd rather see +5 or +10 or +1 rather than X V and +, and -5 or -10 or -1 rather than X V and -.
But other than that, it wouldnt hurt to make it look prettier, or more slick, and the interval settings more intuitive, but otherwise works well for its intended purpose.
Just a note also:
If you release this into the market in its current state expect a low rating. A lot of people will reiterate making the UI look better, and others will flame this app with comments such as "why do we need a counter? make flash and a virtual keyboard" lol.
as for me, i wont be uninstalling it from my phone. I like simple, but useful apps.
1. Do you like the look of the UI?
I content with it. But a lot of people will expect a sleeker UI, due to the simplicity of the app.
2. Do you find it easy to use?
Yes, if you can't understand how to use it, you shouldn't own a G1, let alone a cell phone.
3. What additional features would you like to see?
maybe an automatic counter with adjustable time intervals, just in case my finger gets tired. I may use this during titration experiments in chemistry lab.
4. Would you pay for this App, or one like it with more features?
honestly, I would not pay for it. I would only pay for an app that greatly increases the functionality of the phone.

Thanks for that, a good, honest, constructive review. Yes I am expecting stupid comments when it goes on the market, I don't think there is a way to avoid that, except wait till they do paid apps and charge more for it then some kid would be willing to pay to say "First" or "we need a flash player".
I thought that the Images on the buttons looked nicer then just plain text, but I may be changing that in the future when I code for user definable quantities. Not sure what you mean by "a sleeker UI", could you be more specific.
All in all I'm glad you like the App and will be keeping it. If you e-mail me at counter@twistedlight.co.uk I will keep you informed of any updates.
I can't install it here at work, but from the screen shots, I can agree with andonnguyen as far as the UI. If you need some inspiration for what's hot right now (from a designer's viewpoint) check out web 2.0 style. It's pretty popular these days, and would be an accurate term to describe the iPhones overall appearance. Even though yes I know it's redundant to mimic the iPhone in terms of appearance, but Apple didn't invent web 2.0 style. I'll try it out when I get home to see if I can add more **constructive** criticism

sorry guys, Im still not getting what you mean about the UI, it cannot really be any simpler (except for losing the roman numerals as suggested). The buttons are (in my opinion) well sized and spaced, the colours of them is a key to their usage. and the menu graphics are consistent with the built in OS menu graphics. I have to admit that I am not in any way current with modern web design, so could you please, please be more specific about what you think needs to change.
Not necessarily simpler, just 'higher quality' looking![]()
