    Default Delete limit exceeded

[I'm putting this here just in case anyone else ever runs into this issue.]

    ISSUE:
I made a backup set with MyBackup containing all of my contacts, then flashed my phone and restored the contacts from the backup. This last bit was a mistake, in that I should have restored everything *but* the contacts, allowing my contacts to sync with Gmail. (This is actually pointed out in the instructions, but I wasn't thinking straight.)

At that point, Gmail sync kicked in and chugged away for a while. Then I got a "Delete limit exceeded" error, saying that I had 858 deleted contacts. From this point on, if sync was enabled I was getting this error every 90 seconds or so. Selecting "delete" didn't work, nor did selecting "undo delete".

    SOLUTION:
Knowing that contacts are stored under MyFaves (for reasons that I won't get into here), I went into Settings > Applications > Manage applications, selected MyFaves, and cleared the data.

At that point, all of my contacts were gone. So I re-enabled Gmail sync and they synced up fine.

    Problem solved!

I exported all of my contacts from Gmail beforehand just to be on the safe side.

I needn't have worried, though, clearing the MyFaves cache just clears out your phone's contacts, as if you were signing in and about to sync for the first time.

Not remotely risky, in my experience.

And nothing I've read about cupcake suggests that this is an issue that it addresses...

I had a problem with this as well. I didn't read the part about restoring everything but contacts. I guess my phone was syncing with the contact servers while it was restoring contacts because I noticed quite a few contacts on my phone that were missing on the servers.

I put the phone in airplane mode then cleared myfaves, then restored all of my contacts, but I kept getting a force close from acore when it tried to sync with the servers.

I ended up leaving the phone in airplane mode and manually adding the missing contacts from my computer. Then I cleared myfaves again and let it sync my contacts. It was a pain, but I guess it was my fault for not paying attention.

I had at least one contact with 100 or so phone numbers, so that could have been causing the force close from acore. I'm not really sure. There was a bug in the google sync on my old blackberry that would add any phone number labeled "other" every time it synced, regardless of whether it already existed.

Thanks danguyf, that was an excellent post. I quoted your solution in my blog giving you credit.

    Cheers,

I have Android 2.1 on my HTC Eris and am having this problem. So, I went looking for the "MyFaves", but didn't find it. Does anyone know what the new place is called now? I looked in the app called "People" and I'm wondering if that's the new place, but there seem to be a couple of places that it could be...None of which is called "MyFaves" any longer. (sigh). If anyone knows the new place, could they post it here for an update or maybe point this one to a new thread with the information?

    myFaves is a Tmobile thing.
