Just curious whats the difference between Google Maps Market app vs the Maps app that come standard on the 1.5 Android Mytouch phone?
they are probably the same, if you're not getting an "update available" notification for the maps app. updates to google maps are put in the market.
It shows the latest, but in the Market the Google Named one shows as not installed... So I don't understand if they are one in the same and if they are how come the one that ships standard with Android is not requesting a update or the Google named one showing as installed already? I'm just nervous if it will conflict with each other and also I don't see a clear way of reverting back to stock without reseting the entire phone.
Maybe they renamed it to "Maps" to make it similar-looking to the iPhone "maps" application lol
if you have an app that's preinstalled, or installed from a source other than the market, it will not show as installed in the market, even if it's the same app. you can check your maps version by opening the app and menu>more>about. also, if you haven't used atrackdog, it's an app (free in the market) that will check the versions of all your installed apps to see if new versions are available. i don't think there's any chance of a conflict.
where are you based?
in the UK version of maps that came with 1.5 with somewhat gimped. They released a version through the markets later which included latitude and integrated voice search (i think. voice search was also missing from 1.5 UK and came through the market later). Once they decided to release them in the UK they rolled them out through the market rather than pushing another OTA.
The one in the Market, "Google Maps", is the latest and greatest. I believe it removes the old, outdated stock "Maps" when you install it.

Yes, danguyf is correct. I just received a new G1 last week. I went to use the Maps feature and noticed that it didn't give the option to switch between walking, driving, and bus directions. I immediately went to the Market and updated Google Maps. Once I did the newly added options I just previously mentioned were in there. Not sure what other features were missing and added when I updated.
So, to sum it all up, I got a new G1 last week shipped out to me and it did not have the latest Google Maps version installed. I don't think the new Google Maps app is included in the Android source, which is used for G1s as well as the MyTouches.
