Default Don't want to sync "inbox" mail, just another tag

Hi everyone, This is my very first post to this forum. This seems to be the place for Android info.

So I have a tendency to be distracted by e-mail, and thus would like to limit the amount of e-mail downloaded to my handset to important items only. By default, the G1 syncs all "recent" mail in my Inbox. I have created a filter in Gmail that tags all the mail I want to see. The rest should stay in my inbox, unread, and not seen by my handset, until I later log in and view from my PC.

Is there a way to acheive this? In Gmail options, the sync options are limited to "sync all", and "sync recent" for Inbox, but there is a 3rd ignore option for all the tags in my account. I would like to "ignore" the inbox, and "sync recent my "G" tag. Thanks!

I could not figure it out so I just set filters that bypass the inbox for everything I don't want on my phone.

I thought of doing that, but I hope there is a better answer than that... like "ignore" the inbox. Hopefully in a future software update?
Unless anyone else has a suggestion?
Anyway, how would your filter be described? My "G1" label is comprised of a ton of "from" addresses. So anyone not on that list, does not get the label, and thus, by my theory, woudl stay unmolested in the Inbox, while the "G1" labeled messages get sent to my handset.
