When I'm attempting to download mp3s from some web pages in the browser by long-pressing and selecting "Save link," the download manager gives me the message "Cannot download. The content being downloaded is not supported on the phone." What's going on here? As far as I can tell these are just regular DRM-free mp3 files.
Similarly, when I attempt to download an MP3 of today's DemocracyNow program I just get a message that just says "Download unsuccessful."
Any way to deal with these?
what's the website? They should have a lime wire website for the g1
Anyone else dealing with these download issues? It's not on every site I download an mp3 from, just some of them.
i was having problems downloading from zshare for mp3s... but if a file is posted directly to a server you can download the mp3 from there....
what are some sites that we can download mp3s directly to the g1?

So is there really no workaround for this?
I'm having the same problem...for some reason when it goes to download it doesn't change to the file name it says like dl001.zhare.net instead of blahblah.mp3. So the download becomes unsuccessful. I got mediafire.com to work and zippyshare.net but that's it so far...sendspace does the same as zshare.net.
I have the same problem, and was just wondering if anybody else found a solution to this. It doesn't matter if I'm on WiFi or 3G, but if I just click on the link to a mp3 or mp4 it will play fine. However, I still cannot download the link.
What's weird is that I do not have a problem with some sites and others I do. For example, as the OP noted, I cannot download mp3's or mp4's from the Democracy Now website (http://www.democracynow.org/) or the IT Conversations website (http://itc.conversationsnetwork.org/), but I have no problem what soever downloading from the BBC Podcast page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/.../worldservice/)
On top of that, if I fire up the emulator that's part of the Android SDK, all of the downloads work just fine there.
Anybody have any suggestions?
TIA.
Well, I found that you can download mp3 files from anywhere using a different browser from Android Market - Steel. Downloads just fine. Try using it and see if it works.
Will have to give steel a shot at downloading mp3s... what sites have you tested it on for the downloads?

I haven't had one error downloading off zshare with the updated steel browser
