I currently use gmote on my G1 to control my computer. I then hook up my computer directly to my tv. I was wondering if there is any possible way to install the gmote server on a ps3? Or something that would work the same. This would allow me to access all of my movies and music on my PS3 from any ware in the house. Please do not tell me to install Linux on my ps3. I have already done that and love it but this is something my wife or kids could do.
Thanks.
Technically, this should be doable. PS3 remotes use bluetooth, so I can't see any reason why someone shouldn't be able to write this.
The PS3, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't use Bluetooth to share movies.
OP, you'd want to look into UPnP servers and clients. This site may offer some tips on how to share movies/music with your PS3. I'm not sure PS3 will share back, however. Even if it did, the content purchased/rented from the PSN store would be DRM'ed, and there's little if any chance of playing that legitimately. Trying to share a BluRay movie across the network will also run you into the DRM wall. Huzzah for fair use rights!
Additionally, unless you've popped a larger SATA disk in your PS3, you're only dealing with 40-80gb worth of data at max. I don't know about you but my MP3 collection alone is around 160gb. An easier, nicer solution would be to have one of your PeeCees serving content to the PS3 and the rest of your local network; the PS3 would be a client like everyone else. I do this via a MacMini that also serves as our HTPC.
When I plug my G1 into my PS3 it says "Android Phone"... hey, I was bored.
