I can just tell the java based player is using VLC to play video in my case.. if you use VLC player you know what it looks like..... what is your default media player? what exactly is that java based player doing? is it just a coincidence it looks EXACTLY like VLC player?
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the great feedback! I've noticed a few questions about how we use vlc to play the media so here it goes:
On windows, we use vlc to run all of the media files. For various technical reasons, we can't currently use the full vlc user interface that you might be used to seeing when you run vlc directly from your computer (which would typically have a menu and allow you to customize vlc), even though we are using the vlc engine to play the music and videos.
I believe you should still be able to change most of the VLC settings that you would normally like to change (I've changed several settings in this fashion including subtitles but this is a bit dependent on how the video was encoded). Here is how to do it:
1. Navigate to the application's installation directory's bin\vlc directory:
c:\program files\gmoteserver\bin\vlc
2. Double click on vlc.exe. This should bring up the normal vlc interface.
3. Use vlc's menu to modify any setting that you may wish to modify, and then close vlc.
4. Restart the gmote server. If everything went well, the changes that you made in the vlc interface should be reflected in the current playback.
Also, if you are looking for instructions on how to install vlc on linux, please visit http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Thanks Marc. It's great to see devs on this board still helping out. And thanks for giving us one of the most useful apps on the Market. Gmote rocks.
Thanks Marc I ended up figuring that out.... its the only logical deduction i could come to after i realized I could not right click/long click to get the options menu...just kind of defeats the whole purpose of gmote doesn't it... that purpose being convenience...( although you can use gmote to follow these four steps which is, i guess quite convenient!)... man i love gmote!... just one thing marc why in gods name did you send them to access vlc.exe through gmote/bin etc... cause not everyone necessarily has VLC installed in program files\videolan\vlc? either way it doesn't matter which way you get there...most changes you make are decoder changes which technically dont have to do with vlc, vlc just offers a way to change them....one thing though i guess any changes made to the interface option of the vlc player in gmoteserver\bin\vlc would be different/would not affect the changes made to interface changes to VLC from program files\videolan\vlc... i think.... right? man i might be losin' it...
Either way marc you have increased my laziness factor exponentially with gmote 2.0 and i love you for it... keep up the good work!

Finally some one who knows there stuff. Thanks but i figured out how to install it on my own.
Now on to the next question. Gmote to PS3? That would be so sick. I have my ps3 already set up to my home server and i wifi all 400+ movies to my big ass LCD tv. LOL. But it would be great to use gmote to axcess them and contorl the PS3 os. I know it has to be possible. All the PS3 assesories are bluetooth. G1 bluetooth. Now how to do it? Please see origonal poast for adding to this question

True that would be sick... but why would you want to GMote a PS3? Maybe to use the G1 keyboard when chatting or using the internet instead of the PS3s virtual keyboard...
GMOTE to PS3 would be overkill... I would welcome it though...hehehe.
Besides, G1 supports limitted video types. Hopefully, asfter cupcake, with A2DP this would be more feasible...
I'll let "GMote" respond to you.... and for the record, Marc/Mimi, thanks for your unwavering support to this wonderful app...

"Well this shouldn't be too much of a problem to get running.
First off, you need to make sure you have VLC installed. If you don't have it, nab it from the Ubuntu repo's thusly:
Code:
sudo apt-get install vlc
Or get it from the Add/Remove New Software application in the start menu.
Then you have to have Java running in order to get it started up, too. So make sure you have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed.
Now, this little script requires VLC to reside in /usr/bin/. I don't know where ubuntu drops the VLC executable, but
Code:
whereis vlc
should find it for you. If it isn't in /usr/bin/, make a symbolic link to it.
Code:
sudo ln -s <where vlc is> /usr/bin/vlc
"
hope im not violating any terms by linking to another forum... just wanted to spread the info.
thank you....
fahad.
peace.
Cool, I'm staring at a ubuntu disc right now... if i put that disc in i fear i will never come back....
Sorry for the long delay getting back here (new laptop. Lots of Ubuntu Forms). The reason I would like to have Gmote Server on my PS3 is, I have my playstation 3 networked with my home server and I have hundreds of movies on it. I can watch them on my big screen tv or any other tv that has a playstaion 3 on it, but I have to use the controler to do that. It would be great if I could use my phone to navagate around my movies and play them on any tv in my house. I have found that having all of my movies backed up on my hardrives makes life allot better. Also you can back up blueray movies using your playstation 3 with ubuntu 8.10.
