So I have the Google Voice app installed, it's awesome. However, whenever I receive a text to my GV number, I get the GV notification AND the standard SMS notification. Anyone know how I can not receive the regular text message, so I don't get doubly notified everytime I get a text?
I know there is an option under Google Voice settings to not receive SMS notifications, but when I enable that I get zero notifications, which is even worse.
Thanks for any help!
i would assume open the stock messaging app, go to settings and disable notifications, then keep your google voice settings set up as you want them.

Thanks for the reply, but that was just for alerting me when I have a new voicemail via SMS. I unchecked that awhile ago when I was receiving both email and SMS notifications that I have a new voicemail.
constellation: I already have that unchecked, I think I should rephrase my question so that I want to know if there is a way to actually not send the SMS to my old number. Right now I receive a Google Voice notification that I have a new text, and then I actually receive the SMS on my phone. Seems rather redundant.
Thanks for the help tho.
This doesn't make sense, why would gv alert you when you receive an sms for your native sms application ands vice versa?
You are saying that GV will notify you when you receive an sms on your carrier's phone#?
I too am having this same conundrum.

Not quite. GV forwards all text messages that get sent to my GV number. So it sends them on to my phone as a regular text, and the native application picks them up as text messages. Also, GV notifies me on my phone using the GV application that I have a text message.
I just want some way to block the incoming texts from the GV number.
try going into your Google Voice settings (on the internet through your computer)
click on your phone settings and then click the edit button for your cell number. Once there, uncheck the 'Receive SMS on this phone' box. that should do it.
yup, thats it. now all your texts are free through the gv number.click on your phone settings and then click the edit button for your cell number. Once there, uncheck the 'Receive SMS on this phone' box. that should do it.
