I am exxxtreemely new to coding, and am actually only looking to tether my G1 to my laptop. I downloaded and installed the Android SDK, and when I go to run ANY of the applications found within the "tools" folder: ADB, AAPT, etc. they open for a fracion of a second and then close automatically.

Please some genius out there help! Do I have malware thats closing it? A worm maybe? I have run several malware-removal apps and cleaned out anything so I hope not.

I also don't understand the following from the "tethering" instructions:

Move to the directory that has the adb utility, using inside the Sdk Tools folder and run Windows: adb forward tcp:1080 tcp:1080
