Perhaps Tunes Remote will help me with the following?
I have a home theater system connected to outdoor speakers. I would like to find an inexpensive way to play music from my NAS drive on the stereo, and select songs remotely from outside. The Squeezebox Duet would do it, but I'm not into buying extra hardware if it isn't necessary.
It seems like Tunes Remote allows you to access the iTunes library for playing through your phone. If I had an Airport Express hooked up to my one of my home theater jacks, would it be possible to use my HTC Eris (I think its the old 1.5 or 1.6 OS) just like a remote and select the home theater speakers?
Yes, that is possible. That's exactly why I use Tunes Remote instead of one of the other suggested apps.
I have an Airport Express connected to my home theatre system, and iTunes running on a pc upstairs. I set iTunes to play through the remote home theatre speakers and can control the play via my Droid. The only problem is that you can't select the remote speakers via Tunes Remote - you have to do it in iTunes. That's not really a big deal, though.
I'm a little slow in responding to this, but yes it was very helpful!
After killing the iTunes Helper service, everything seemed to work pretty well. BTW, I'm running on Vista, so I killed it via Task Manager and then ran msconfig, went to the Startup tab, and unchecked the service. Note, when updating iTunes, you'll get a new entry here and you'll have to go disable it again.
I was having the same problem and after hours of trying this and that I realized something very simple that fixed it. When you enter your IP address you have to make sure there are not spaces between the periods. Once i realized this the application was finally able to get it to work. Hope that helps.
