Question:
Does anyone know of an Android Application that can extract an e-mail address from an SMS and automatically send an e-mail message to that address with some pre-specified text?
Background:
One of my upstream vendors is rolling out a new program that requires us to respond in a timely manner, even at 3am (when some of us are asleep).
This program sends an SMS containing an e-mail address to a phone and then we have to select the e-mail address and send a message to it (in order to stop the clock).
I've looked at various applications that can "auto respond" to messages of various types (i.e. dgAway or PhonePlus CallBack) but either they don't apply or require a fixed e-mail address to send messages to.
Example SMS:
cust-123545334.somecompany@someplace.com: la la la la (etc.)
That sounds like a pretty specific niche. I would actually be surpised to find that someone has already built an app that fills your specific need.
If such an app does exist, I don't know about it. I just can't see a large scale demand for something such as that.

I have solved your riddle. You can copy a email by using the app Handcent SMS. Once you get your text then use the track ball to highlight the email address by hovering over it. Then long hold the trackball and WHAM up pops a choice to use gmail to complete the action.
Give that a try and if it works you owe my 50 cents (the money I would have made from you had I made an App to fill your need).

If I see a iPhone commercial of an app doing just this ... "there's an app for that"...
I will kill myself.

Not really the solution I was looking for as it is pretty much what we are doing now. I will give you a C+ for effort.
Indeed, it is. (I keep seeing pictures of sleepwalking e-mail/sms sessions by the internet sales guy. *beep* Need to respond to leads... *beep* Need to respond to leads...)
I don't think that Google Voice will be in the cards for this application but I had given thought to a more layered approach using existing applications and something that tears apart the e-mail on a server to send the appropriate response. I just don't look forward to having to code such a thing.![]()
We have recently released an app that does something very close to this functionality - MokiReply. Check out it or look at our app page.
We could probably add the functionality you need to the app. We should talk.
