    Question Remove Orange Apps

    Hi all,

I have a HTC Desire on Orange UK network.

It came with a load of apps like maps, games etc... from Orange and all of which are things i'd need to pay for and therefore have no intention of using when there are free alternatives.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them? they don't even show up in the list on the Uninstaller app...

To uninstall apps that are preinstalled you will need to be rooted, then they can be uninstalled with adb or a free app, root explorer.

Argh! i don't want to root my phone, i don't know what i'm doing well enough.
I might just have to shout at Orange about it, I really with the different networks would keep their grubby mits off!

Yeah the HTC Desire is one of the harder and riskier phones to root. But it can be done.

Orange give you a Maps app? LOL - how can that possibly be any better than Google's Maps app?

It's not, it does have like Orange's own satnav in it... but i don't understand why anyone would pay £5 a month when Google Navigation is free! and better!

Well, Google Navigation isn't QUITE there yet. I did a comparison of Google Navigation side by side with my usual dedicated Sat Nav on my blog here: http://extorian.co.uk/blog/225/compa...-sat-nav-unit/

The main problem with Google Navigation is that you need to have an active data connection or the map simply disappears. Drive into the Yorkshire dales (and in my case even some places on the A1) and lose your signal and it's like all roads suddenly end at the top of your screen.

But £5/m? Where do they get off? You can buy a dedicated Sat Nav from Tesco for £50 one off charge and it'll have a way bigger screen too.

agreed, but i still think that a mixture of Google nav. + actually looking a signs is good enough!
The bit i really hate is that i can't delete the bloody things taking up app. space...

*sigh*... i hate lack of signal in that part of the world... my partner's parents are from Easingwold... no signal...
