you can auto-rotate in root on any screen just D/L DroidScans Tweak tool for root. You can also D/L Task Manager for root and terminate apps running in the background. Also I just rooted 2 G1s today and going to do another family G1 later. Once i told them and showed them what it can do they want it now.

Here's MY question. May take a developer-type to be able to answer it, but maybe not.

Say I root my phone, and I do the apps-on-SD mod. So now all my apps will be stored on the SD. Will ONLY the apps be there, or does the mod make the phone use ONLY the SD for memory (including system memory)? Reason I ask is because if it is the latter, mny SD card is probably slower than the phone's internal memory and then rooted phone would be functionally slower than nonrooted phone. OR, would this allow the phone to use all of its internal memory as system memory then, leading perhaps to a faster phone overall? I mean, I don't mind my apps loading a little slower, being on SD, but I still want the phone to be responsive and quick otherwise.

So is it all-on-SD or is it sensibly divided?

The main benefit I see for me to have a root phone is to be able to run IP commands in the terminal that nonroot doesn't allow and to be able to put apps on SD. I need to weigh these benefits against performance cost.

If this helps you at all, I use a class2 sd card, and I have all of my apps running off of it, and if there is a speed difference before it I cannot notice it.

    What themes?

I rooted my G1 as well, it went pretty smooth, except for recovering using MyBackup, some apps came back, some didn't (but they were all under My Downloads in Market) and contact data was a little messed up (like ringtones) and when the phone synced to Google it said that there were 116 contact deletes....weird.

Okay, I'm having trouble with this. Following the directions to the letter (I think), I unzip the "Downgrade files RC30.zip", putting its contents (6 files) directly on the root of the MicroSD card. I then put the card in the unpowered phone, and turn the phone on whilst holding in the Camera button. All I get is "No Image File" although DREAIMG.NBG *is* on the card. My output of "ls -lah" is
    Code:
    total 129M
    drwxr-xr-x 2 me me 16K 2009-01-31 12:54 .
    drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 496 2009-01-16 21:13 ..
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 1.4K 2009-01-30 10:13 downgrade instructions.txt
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 88M 2009-01-01 14:58 dreaimg.nbh
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 177K 2009-01-04 08:35 Hard_SPL_update.zip
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 159 2009-01-03 02:32 install
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 1.7M 2008-11-06 20:41 recovery_testkeys.img
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 me me 40M 2009-01-25 06:45 update.zip
    Is this incorrect somehow?

I've tried it by transferring files in a cardreader, I've tried it by transferring files with the card in the phone, I've tried extracting the files to the card and then extracting THOSE files to the card as well... what, do I have to move ALL the files from ALL the folders it makes into the root? It just says "No Image File!" when I try to boot it. Exactly what file is it looking for at this point in time???

Oh well, no matter. I haven't got time to screw with it any more this afternoon. Maybe tonight. Today I have to go work on my Daytona that I wrecked Thursday morning. Minor fender bender, but now I need a new fender, and I have to get the old one off first. Might need a new hood, too. Gotta get the water out of the driver floorboard (was raining that day, but I didn't notice the water until after the day was over so I don't know if I leaked or if it's all from having the door open for those few minutes at the scene). I'll try the phone later.

Make sure your SD card is formated as Fat32. I don't think the phone will see the files if the card is Fat.

Maybe it's because I'm using Linux to do it... shouldn't matter though. All it needs is that DREAIMG.NBH file, right? That's the image, isn't it?

I've made sure it's FAT32 and even went back and reformatted it in Linux AS a FAT32. Still no joy. I might try it in a winblows computer later on...
