SUCCESS!!!! Took less than 10mins to ROOT!!!! Now I just need to download the root apps from market.

Only one thing was quirky though. This isnt my image (copied from another forum), but this happened after I installed RC29:




I got scared and pissed...so I pulled out the battery and then rebooted then BAM! I was on RC29. Then I continued with no other problems

Did you have to go through the Google Activation after rooting? I plan on rooting my phone later tonight but don't have a data plan, so I don't want to get stuck on that screen unless there's a way around it during this process (i.e. activating through wi-fi).

Yes...when you revert back to RC29 it WILL do the initial setup...but afterwards it doesnt.

BTW, I'm having trouble updating the bootloader. How exactly do I rename the file? On my PC or G1? I tried the PC but it wont rename it since there already is another "update.zip" in the directory

As far as I know only the ADP version can activate on WiFi.

Just delete the first update.zip, you don't need it any more since you've already updated.

Copy all the file in the zip to the SD card. Make sure they are not in any folders.
