They have a music guru on the other end of the connection listening...
And they use google to google the lyrics and get it back to you

Voice-to-text and then match the lyrics, maybe? How can a computer understand song lyrics when I can't most of the time??

i think they use a gracenote kind of music library to compare the recording to and tell you the name? Same kind of thing on Sony phones, Music ID
