Just read an article on CNN about a new product called Shortcovers, which will be coming out in Feb. for Blackberry, the, um, Apple mobile cellular device and our personal favorite, the Android!
It's supposed to be a Kindle killer, the Amazon device which allows you to download books via internet wireless and read it on the device.
"Shortcovers lets you read the first chapter of any book free of charge. It then gives you the option to either buy a chapter at a time, or purchase the whole book. Single chapters are expected to cost around 99 cents each, with full books averaging between $10 and $20. You'll also have the option to have the book shipped to you physically if you prefer."
Not sure if Shortcovers will be a Kindle killer, but I happen to love reading on my G1. I just find it very convenient to have a book available all of the time... if I'm taking the kids to the doctors and have to wait, or whatever.
It's also convenient at night to be able to read while in bed, without having to turn on the lights.
Don't really think this will be a Kindle killer.. I'd LOVE to have a Kindle, but I'm not ready to spend $360 on it, but for the time being, I can't wait for Shortcovers to come out!
At launch, Shortcovers expects to have about 50,000 full books available.
If you're interested, read the full article here....

Meh, I use Book which just pulls books off of Google Reader. It only gets the non copy-righted stuff, so mainly classics, but that's good enough for me.
Hi
Thanks for the info! But think I'll be keeping my Kindle a while longer, since great expectations seem take a very, very long time when they're related to our G1s...
still waiting, waiting, waiting for my A2DP...
Done with Android; tired of waiting; G1 for sale by owner!

Did you hear the new Kindle is coming out?
I'd love to get a Kindle, but it's kind of pricey.... even though you may save some $$$ on books, I don't think I'd purchase enough books to make it very cost efficient. Also, I like having the physical book some times.
Kindle does look pretty sweet, though. New one is half as thick and holds something like 8 times as many books. Also has 16 shades of gray....
Yes, we got the announcement moments before the "launch".
I love my original and it's more than paid for itself; I still get books from the library from time to time, but Kindle has been a fantastic travel companion, and the greasy fingerprints when eating lunch and reading wipe off so much easier than with the printed page.![]()

Sounds awesome I wonder how they're going to do it. Keep the pages online or just download to the SD card ... or both like on textonphone.
I just realized I have no qualms pirating music but will happilly pay for books, anyone else the same ?
What we need (in my opinion) is eReader for Android.
