Default Truphone soon on your G1 :)

I was checking the Truphone website and what a pleasant view of a G1 picture and a coming soon star on top of it:

Truphone is a voip app so you can make international calls for a cheap price.
I used to have it on my iPhone and it works very well.

This looks interesting. I signed up for their mailing list. Gotta give this a try.

Are you the kind of person that doesn't donate anything (code, money, time, hardware, bandwidth) back to the community? A technology welfare recipient?

Yeah NO, cheapest international calling service is provided by G3 Telecom.
G3 to say Philippines is 15 cents for a Cell and truphone charges 40? Go figure.

on the main home screen, it says "where do you want to call" and in the drop down menu, i chose several places, then it gave the price it would be if you were to call via, mobile or text or regular phone...then the truphone option said "free" next to it

free is as cheap as u can get without paying

Wi-Fi calls to other connected Truphone users are completely free of charge. From wherever, to wherever.

Thats the catcher right there. The other person has to use TruPhone on Wi-Fi for it to be free.

Hmmm, Agreed that the picture is a G1, but the caption simply says HTC. Not saying that this isn't coming for Android, just saying maybe (despite picture) it will be for WinMo. I have sen't an e-mail requesting clarification of this, though they are just round the corner from me at the moment I doubt they will answer questions from people who just walk in off the street.

Ummm still NOT free, unless you are both running Truphone.

    Free calls worldwide

    Free Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi calls

Truphone lets you call other connected Truphone users anywhere in the world for free. Yes that's right - for FREE.
Zip, zilch, zero, nada, not a penny, not a cent... nothing! Free mobile calls!
If the person you're calling is connected to Truphone on their Nokia or iPhone then you can make free calls to each other, for as long as you want. From wherever to wherever!
It doesn't matter if the person you're calling is 1000 miles or 10 metres away, because we route it over the internet it's an absolutely free mobile call.
And if you're an iPhone user the news is even better... Our new Presence functionality tells you which of your Truphone contacts are currently online, giving you the green light to make free phone calls!

I am done here, read the fine lines I dont want anyone falling into this highly priced trap.

I thought I remember hearing that G went to great lengths to make sure no VOIP programs would work on Android. Or am I imagining things? I am getting old...

Actually that was T-mobile that was going through great lengths to stop VoiP on the phone, not Google.
