Why do they need the carriers consent? It's a totally open market!

Someone should just write a Last.fm client. The source is already open.

The reason they need to also work with the carriers is very simple. Imagine what would happen to ... lets say T-Mobiles brand new... not yet mature... 3G network if a million people suddenly start sucking up all the bandwidth all the time listening to streaming music. Im sure T-Mobile would have to say one of 2 things.... 1.)No.... or 2.)Sure ... your new monthly data rate plan is $100 a month.

that's bs. it's not up to app developers to police their users bandwidth usage. furthermore, the android market has nothing to do with tmobile. sure, it HAPPENS that the only android device is on tmo right now, but in the future that will not be the case. these apps will be available to everyone- even people who don't have data plans. it's up to each user to use their data responsibly.
more than likely, you got a canned response from them because they are a company with a business plan. they aren't sitting by their inboxes hoping for a suggestion from a user in order to take their next step. they're not holding emergency meetings because "skatturbrain from AC emailed us!" (no offense)
i'm sure we'll see an app in time, and that time will be exactly when they plan or planned to release it and not based on OP's suggestion whatsoever
Or just give a big FU to t-mo and their data plan monopoly for the G1 and downgrade to RC29 and use wifi only...like me. Who needs Cellular networks when we have wifi all around us these days

The fact is that it's not tmobile not letting them because you have have Pandora on Tmobile's BlackBerry. I just got the G1 today and was hoping there would be a pandora app. I had the BlackBerry before and loved having the app.
Below is the reply I received last week from them. Would be great if they got it together.
"Thanks for writing us, and thanks for the suggestion!
Yep, we're definitely considering it.
Although we can't pre-announce exactly if or when Android will be supported (as unexpected hurdles often crop up along the way and we don't want to go back on our word!), you should definitely stay tuned!
