Default Any Recommendations For a High Refresh Rate External GPS Unit?

I'm looking for an external GPS unit to pair with the G1 through Bluetooth. The G1's GPS's refresh rate is too slow for me. It only refreshes once every few seconds. Can anyone recommend an external GPS unit that is both highly accurate and have at least a 5Hz (but preferrably 10 to 20Hz) refresh rate? Thanks!

Hmm never heard of a GPS unit that uses bluetooth. Is the G1 compatible? I thought there were only drivers for mono sound right now, maybe not?

There are plenty of Bluetooth GPS units out there, however the G1 lacks the stacks to use them. As mast3rpyr0 stated only the headset stack is included out of the box.

Actually, there are plenty. If you do a search on Amazon for "bluetooth gps receiver," you will get quite a few results. The problem is most specs and user reviews focus on how accurate a unit is and say nothing about its refresh rate.

All multi-channeled GPS are accurate down to a few feet, but the refresh rate can vary widely. At 5 Hz, movement on Google Maps should be relatively smooth. At 10 Hz, not only would the movement be smooth, the real-time accuracy would also be excellent at most speed of travel. Real-time accuracy deals with the time gap between the first and last beacon signals being processed, as well as the time lag between signal processing and position derivation.

For the G1, since it only refreshes once every several seconds, there is no need for the hardware to be able to process everything lightning fast. Thus, not only will your position be updated only once in a while, your GPS determined location will also be as far as 50 to 100 feet behind your actual location at the time of the update.

In contrast, for a 10 Hz device, all processing would have to be done within 1/10th of a second. This translates to a maximum delay of less than 10 feet. For a 20 Hz device, the maximum delay would drop to 5 feet. Thus, not only does your GPS location info stay practically real-time, each update will also be far closer to where you actually are at the time of the refresh.
