Was just on the phone for over an hour with a Tmobile rep who was about to replace my G1 because I could not download any apps via the android market. While the rep frantically searched for an answwer, I stumbled upon this on a T-Mobile Forum:

The word is out! It has to do with the GMail account. If you have a lot of characters this may the cause of the problem. Ppl are saying it is 12 or more but I had 10. Create a new one and you should be fine.

Here are the steps:
1. Go to Settings and go to SD card & phone storage
2. Click on Factory data reset and reset you G1.
3. Once it comes back up create a new account.

mine is 15 characters long and i've never had an issue
my email address is just my first and last name

whatever - instead of the bs remarks, perhap just a thanks - all I'm saying is that mine was my first and last name - about 13 characters - changed it to my initials and the downloads work.

Wow. Touchy. No one was saying any "BS remarks". You might want to wear your heart a little further away from your sleeve. Anyway, mine is also my first and last name. 11 characters, and I don't have a problem.

mine is 13 charachters and I've never had a problem I think its just reseting the phone thats fixing it.

Same here, LOGIK215, and so far no problems with downloading EXCEPT when the network isn't available. Seems to be major problem here in Vegas; can't decide if network capacity really is so low or if the network is just crap...

sometimes it happens to me but i think its cause of gmail messing up... i just power cycle my phone and it works again... its something with the g1 and gmail cause the market is connected via gmail and the g1.

Interesting. My gmail is 8 letters so I should be fine.
