What hardship? If possible, the phone will just be thicker by another 4 to 5 mm. Now imagine being able to surf the web for 10 hours, non-stop. If that's not hardcore battery life, I don't know what is.
I wouldn't go down the path of a battery pack that hooks up via USB though. Running batteries in parallel is the way to go, rather than having the USB piggyback battery trickle charge the on-board battery to death :P
I'm guessing that this will probably require a recalibration of the battery sensor, but I need confirmation that this is possible

All you need in life : Love, air, water, a G1, 2 spare batteries and an unlimited data plan
I like the idea of a thicker phone for extended battery life. I always thought that they should have sacrificed another mm or two to pack at least 1500mah battery in there.
Alternately I would go down the path of two batteries, but with a modified back that allows for quick battery swaps instead of packing both in there.

Thought of that, but suspected it might confuse the heck out of the battery meter and screw up calibration. 2 batteries, or 3, and we're all set for a couple of days.

42 bucks is too much...
I ordered a 1200 mah battery for 7 bucks with discount.... and it works and fits fine...
might order 2 more at that price and a battery charger so i can have 3 batteries in case of emergency

If I dealt with the "Wing" being thick...
I guess, I could deal with the extra thickness for outstanding battery life

Hmm... good point about the battery meter, especially running 2 batteries with different capacities. If they were identical batteries and ran them down to the same point each time, that may work, but not all "identical" batteries are the same, nor do they degrade at the same rate, so over time the meter would get confused again.
Suppose it would be interesting if batteries and the meters were smart enough to recognize eachother and be linked by a code...
