you have no idea where they get their batteries from, do you?
i ask merely for information, of course
To answer you question about double batteries, obviously Seido has done this for several devices, and packaged it with a revised back cover. Two batteries wired in series would double voltage, two batteries wired in parellel would double capacity and would require re-calibration, yes. Obviously, the best scenario is to have the phone know it has multiple cells to use strategically, but obviously the second scenario works well, or Seido wouldn't be selling so many super-extended double battery packs.
By current phone standards, the G1 is already fat and heavy. Having "only an extra 4-5mm" packed onto the back for more battery life would be disgusting.
Look at the iPhone and how thin it is. Now imagine what it's battery life would be like if you could replace the battery in it with a higher capacity version. The phone would still be 4-5mm thinner than the G1 and it would have better battery life than our "extended" batteries will provide.
I'd also much rather pay $42 for some extra juice. If there's one thing I don't need, it's carrying around support paraphernalia for my mobile phone. I'm already irritated that I have to think about where my headphone adapter for my G1 is. How about it not dying on you in the first place and you not having to carry around special equipment for your mobile phone. How about we complicate our lives less.
A bigger capacity battery usually means it being larger. In my case, I'm prepared to accept a 4 to 5mm increase in thickness to go from 1150 mAh to 3450 mAh. In your case, you're prepared to accept a 2200 mAh battery (claimed) for no increase in thickness (unlikely, but possible). Different solutions for different needs -- I'd appreciate it if you didn't dismiss my needs so indiscriminately.

You can't argue with people caught in the grips of iPhone envy. It's like another kind of envy--the more you mess with someone else's, the more you wish you had one yourself. I, for one, don't want a phone that's so thin in might absorb into my skin if I gripped it too tightly in my hand.
The G1's thickness is "disgusting"? How much do you put in your pockets, seriously? Sure, it's not the sort of magical "how do they fit it in there" kind of thing that the iPhone has, but isn't the reason we have G1s in the first place because we don't think Apple is the be-all and end-all of genius?
And regardless of that, what is the big deal about having a phone that you can actually feel the presence of in your hand? Does the thickness hurt your muscles or irritate your skin? If so, you may want to see a doctor, because last I checked, the human hand is capable of holding objects.
You can't wow your friends with how pretty your phone is if it dies while they marvel at its sexiness. And aren't you supposed to be looking at what's on the screen anyway?

I have tMob's portable recharger (basically a battery you charge, then plug into your phone to transfer the power for like.. $23 I think)
It gives about 1 full solid charge tot he phone. At 1/2 the price this will remain my solution, even if it is a goofy pain in the butt to recharge.
so far this is the best deal i can find for batteries and chargers for the g1 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2BSI%26otn%3D4
Tmobile G1 - Cyanogen 4.2.3.1 w/ Enoch Theme
