Default Intel Prepares For Android Netbooks

Anticipating an influx of Android-powered netbooks to the market, Intel has begun preparations to supplyÂ*manufacturersÂ*with chipsets that will support the platform. Traditionally a Windows and Linux-dominated market, netbooks could benefit greatly ... Read more

It always cracks me up when people talk about Android on netbooks vs Windows and.......Linux. You all do realize that Android is Linux just like any other Linux distro right? It just has a specialized stack on top of the kernel.

I just can't see android being cool on anything other than a phone (and maybe PMP's and GPS). Seems like a waste of time to port an OS specifically designed for a phone to a PC. There may be some potential, particularly for tablets. Other than that it just seems pointless to me.

    just my .02
I guess we'll find out here soon enough.

I could see it running well on netbooks, since they usually have a lower procwessing power and its a light os, especially as netbooks evolve into fancier portable devices.

But that's just my .02 cents, so now we have .04 cents!

I think you will be surprised to see all the things Android will be running on in the next couple of years.

I think android would be a great solution for netbooks.

Personally I'm too impatient for windows XP to actually load on one of those things and since I cannot game on it I absolutely see no reason what so ever to actually pay the MS tax for.

The stripped down Linux OSes that come for those things usually end up being too basic and even at times locked down so that again makes me want to immediately replace them with Kubuntu. Though even Kubuntu seems too slow on netbooks due to the nature of the system, goes back to that whole impatient thing.

Android though? It would be open enough to keep my interest and fast as hell on a netbook. If we put it on a netbook who knows what could happen with people developing desktop effects or any number of things that would just not be feasable to do on a phone.

I for one welcome our "Android on netbooks" overlords.

I think android would do far better on UMPCs than netbooks.

if and when it is ported it probably will be a respin of the stack to include what features neccessary for the type of hardware you have. i don't think apps with accelerometers would be relevant for a netbook. although the browser and media player and other apps would be practical. the eee has a lot of different distributions ported i don't see any reason why android can't be included. next thing you know people will be dual booting android off a usb or flash drive. i have an eee 900 i hope to install android on it as soon as some dev makes it possible.
