Am I nuts, or is the mini-usb input on the G1 a weird shape?

Yes it is, seems like they literally cut a corner in the manufacturing process to save time/money.

it's a mini USB port. regular mini USB connector fits and works. for example, for connecting to your PC and for charging.

i think someone should make a product that clips onto the bottom of the g1 so it can sit in ipod docks. Saves having to make a dock for the g1 plus there are plenty ipod docks out there to choose from. I think thats the main problem, with non-apple phones and mp3 players, that other companies are only making their products ipod/phone compatible.

after seeing this, I wanted to make something to use my ipod car fm modulator / dock for my g1, but while that set up gives proof of concept, it obviously is not suitable for mobile or any continued use for that matter. The female adapter for an ipod is readily avalible on the net, but not trusting my small soldering skills, I found cablejives universal dock adapter (http://cablejive.com/universal_dock_converter.html) ...honestly i expected the pin outs to be wrong, but figured ide cut up a cable and cross over the nessesary wires, to my surprise, I plugged the g1 data cable into this adapter and presto, sounds and charging....kinda surprised no one's found this yet, or maybe they have and im being redundant, either way, thought ide share.

ps im working on a "dock holder adapter" to hold the g1 in ipod cradles, ill get back to everyone on that.
