Yea, but it was given as a platform for them to code on. Im talking about the business end of Tmobile. Why would they give you features that a "new" phone has? Seems like a bad business decision, dont you think? Try to think of it on a business stance.

I HIGHLY doubt someone would quit their job at Google over lack of updates. I have faith that we will get features that we're seeing in these videos but come on..

that'd be a good business move on their end

look at the sidekicks.. everytime you upgraded to a new sidekick, t-mobile/danger required customers to re purchase apps and ringtones all over again

you'll think customers would stop upgrading to newer sidekicks, but they didn't

i think cupcake will run on g1, not only cause i saw a few demos but cause they're not shouting out g2, g3.. they're saying "android"

e.g. "flash is coming to android by 2010", "cupcake by the end of 1st quarter will be coming to android", etc etc

now how much of cupcake will we be getting? i don't know.. maybe a keyboard, video recording, i doubt the new bluetooth feature will be ported but then again who knows

i could see newer phone models having better hardware to handle ad2p bluetooth, etc etc

but in any case, if anybody wants cupcake that bad who knows how to root, you can root to cupcake, for those who can't root or don't want to root, give it by end of march

the sidekick lx didn't originally have video camera, that came in via ota and then they released the sidekick 08, so they may be doing the same thing with the g1(cupcake via ota) and g2(pre-installed with cupcake)

I have a G1 and I love the phone, however I really would like to "root" the phone. I've read posts on how to do it, but I am not tech savvy at all. I'm sure I would brick my phone. Is there an easy way to do it (easy being a relative term of course), or any suggestions for me out there. First time posting, would appreciate any feedback.

this makes the most sense and is basically what the whole OS was founded on. I would think that the G1 would be part of any update.

For almost every issue we had with our phones there was a link to XDA to solve it. Even if G drops updates for the g1 which I dont expect, I'm positive someone "holy" over there will mod the cc for the g1. Now a g1 user that doesn't already know about root, should never find out. May sound harsh but if u have any interest in the smartphone you paid for and haven't already heard about sites like this one, u have a life and therefoe can live without cc...

Its as easy as downloading a file on your PC. Renaming it to update.zip, putting in the SD card of the G1 and then pressing couple of keys on the g1. bam! there you have root

    Guys,

One of the main reasons Apple Iphone did very well was because the company never abandoned it, they kept pushin new updates every now and then and adding some new functionalities. Google has been already doing that, and this is not about T-Mobile business, this is google keeping its reputation for a solid and well supoprted OS. Once of the failures of Microsoft towards Windows Mobile, and they have been heavily criticised for it. Just like they keep updating their Windows XP while Vista has been released to the market, its the same concept. From a Business prespective to grab customer's attention they need to give in more hardware changes and options. Software wise its no longer the big deal anymore.

If we don't get the important updates for the G1, my wife and I will be moving on to iPhones when our contract is up. Actually, if it becomes evident that they will shaft G1 users, We'll probably buy out the contract and move on.

If flash comes out for the G2 and it "can't be ported, according to t-mobile" it'll be a done deal, ours will be on e-bay within the day.

They're money is really in the plans, so if shady business practices start coming, the only thing we can do as consumers, is vote with our $$$, and if the G1 stops getting useful updates, then that is a company I don't wish to do business with.
