When is everybody going to figure out that the talkback articles go on the front page for people to see. Not everyone goes on forums and this article goes on the android community homepage so that you dont have to enter the forums to see it.

isnt it possible for them to release an update that will put apps to the SD thus freeing internal memory for updates? I mean its already being done on plenty of rooted phones out there mine included. All they would have to do is tell people to have at least 100 MB free on their SD cards before the update and then turn that 100 MB's into an ext 2/3/4 partition. Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to things like this but wouldnt that be the best way to go about it?

No because people can steal applications when they are stored on the sd card. They would need to find a more secure way of doing apps to sd before they do so.

But what about the backup apps that do this already and store the .apk on the SD card like Astro. Seems like people could already do this.

apps2sd has nothing to do with the flash memory the phone has for updates. they are 2 different things, the flash memory is hidden and only used for the OTA updates and stuff like that. the internal memory on the other hand can be used for apps and data

this is also not true, if a developer chooses to make his/her app private then astro cannot copy the apk file. a developer can choose to make it private wether its a paid or free app

Concerning the internal flash... Couldn't an update be engineered to increase the internal flash by taking it from another partition?? Isn't that what has already been done in the root movement?

Thats kinda along the lines of what i was thinking. If thats not the case then why is it the bigger rom you load on your phone (say hero around 80mb) the less internal storage you have before apps to sd is applied.

I would hope that there would be a newer version of the G1 released, as I prefer the physical keyboard over the touch. I would then recommend that T-Mobile go and give us a free update to this new phone, regardless of the contract time.
