Apple didn't really have to refund that $200 either, but it was a goodwill gesture that ensured that their fanbase was kept intact and pleased with the product. The same should apply here. (Though I already bought my own adapter weeks ago.)
Yes, I both purchased a 3.5mm and believe as you that 'Customer Care and Feeding' pays off in the long run. I could draw comparisons as other giving reasons - proof of my feelings/point of view - however, your post is unemotional and fact based view, therefore needs none.

I will make a personal suggestion vs. accusing others that their feelings are unfounded, hey, feelings are feelings. Business "high/low moral ground" calls will decide what the market place will support and does trickle down to everyone sooner or later. If company A saves dollars by this kind of treatment, other companies will follow it is as simple as that.

Please do not read any more if my personal feeling would upset you, you are warn, IF they have added something within 30 days, at the same price, then it seems logical that an oversight was made and they believe it needed to be corrected. If so, then "fish or cut bait" and do the moral thing, otherwise stop sending them to folks.

Should we return our G1's and re-purchase before the return time runs out to get whatever one else is getting! Seems like both a lose-lose and poor customer service....if T-mobile realized they 'jumping the gun' to get them out and now realize that 3.5 are part of the normal equipment for the G1, why not reward loyal customer's who TRUST that T-mobile will play fair, not to even go into reward those who pre-ordered. Say with a $19.99 G1 data plan and all after the pre-order deadline charge the $24.99. Even if the system could not handle this, give a ($5 *12/24 = $60/$120) refund off the bill at the end of the year/contract, a win-win.

You guys think they'll eventually stock these in T-mobile retailers as a standalone product? I bet a lot of HTC users would be pleased with this.

You asked about the people telling you to cough up $5 and asked why should you have to when you could and should get it free. The answer -- because you SHOULDN'T get it free.

Do something really quickly. Stop focusing on what those who ordered recently are receiving. Remove them from the equation, because your purchase is NOT their purchase. Now with them removed, do this:

Check your order. Examine your invoice. Rifle through your materials. Do they all match? Yes? Ok, good. Now, shut up.

You OPTED to pay x number of dollars for x equipment. If the equipment you received matches what you paid for, you weren't "screwed over." That's elementary, Dear Watson.
I knew there wasn't a headset adapter in the very first shipments but it WOULD eventually be included. I think of this as the update that recently came out... RC19 to the first shipments and eventually the ones who already got the phone were offered the update to RC29/30 and now they are already shipping with the update. Also, how can I not focus on what others are recently receiving if i'm one of them. I ordered this phone not even a month ago. You really need to stop being such a jerk. Some people think we should get the headset free some don't, why criticize those who want it? Lastly you cant tell me that I did this and that, you don't know me and you cant tell me that I do and don't know. I bought the G1 knowing that the headset adapter WOULD eventually be included with the G1, I didn't know when this eventually would happen... You don't agree fine, i'm not going to sit here and tell you that your wrong because maybe in your opinion you aren't but in mine I am right and I say bring the headset adapter to everyone.

Let's start with this Mr. Jaceman (and any other dummy who agrees with this twit); because of all the complaints/feedback from pre-order customers concerning the lack of a 3.5 adapter, new customers are now able to enjoy the spoils of our efforts. Hence, the loyal pre-order customers should be rewarded with those same spoils as it would seem only fair. Yes, i knew exactly what the invoice said when i ordered the phone!! Since you are making it a point to make this a literal discussion about what the invoice said, then UNDERSTAND this; the pre-order information (along with what T-mobile agents told me) stated absolutely nothing about the possiblity of an included adapter in future shipments (being literal works both ways)!! Had i known that, i would have waited to order. Because contrary to your beliefs, $5 for an adapter that should be free (given by a company worth millions) can be used to feed my children in this economy... it doesn't take a genius to know that!!!!

Conversely, had you taken the time to realize a $5 adapter was not included in the sale price, you could have waited until the G1 was shipping with said adapter, opting instead to fed your kids with that $5 or the $179+($25/data plan*24) you saved by not purchasing the G1 in "this economy".

While the additional device looks quite nice, especially with included mic, it is little reward for an over-priced, over-hyped phone.

I have been using the G1 for about four weeks now and I have to say that t-Mobile has screwed every single purchaser in so many ways. This product IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME. While the phone and the Android OS have a lot of potential, anyone willing to buy an advanced PDA phone is MUCH better off with a Windows Mobile device. While I am by no means a Microsoft junkie, I just feel like the G! is a complete rip-off.

For the serious professional, don't waste your money on this phone. Spend it on something that's worth the money, like a Windows Mobile smartphone or Blackberry.

i dont normally do this but I am going to, anyone here who is using the G1 and thinks t-mobile messed up.
    1. this is marketed towards the consumer not business professional. I came from a bb curve and the only thing I miss is the im client. (I do not use my personal cell for work)

    2. what did you expect with a first generation operating system? do you remember winmo 2003 and how bad that worked.

    3. the market place is still in BETA / developers are not getting paid yet for programs. Hence the horrible programs being produced

    4. many updates are coming in 2009 to add many of the features we are complaining about.

    5. if you dont like your phone e bay it, its going for 325.00, many of us are sick of hearing you wine.

    Thank you

I wish I had read this in December... how could I miss being called a twit (and having anyone who agrees with me labeled a dummy) by someone with only 1 post?

Anyway... this "twit" thinks your argument is ridiculous. You expect that invoice to tell you what MIGHT BE included in the future? Well that's convenient! Quick, call the R&D department and have them provide us with a list of everything that we might develop or offer one day so that we can let our customers know that they shouldn't purchase our stuff until these items that might arrive actually DO arrive. That's the only way we can have integrity!

Alright... I'm going to head back to twitter now. It's where us twits are most welcome.

my G1 did not come with the adapter ( I bought from Best Buy).

When I went to a T-Mo store, they said they could only sell me one. =/
