    Default hotspot @ home

Unfortunately i have crappy coverage in my condo so i use the hotspot@home GSM->Wifi service.

Unfortunately it's not listed as a feature of the G1.. since it has wifi, maybe it could be added eventually, or as a third party app...

Anyone talk to t-mobile about this or have any ideas whether this could be hacked in?

Yeah I would love to have this since I have the @Home service. I would imagine though that T-mobile may not be able to answer if it is possible or not. But more like the developers.

If this doesn't happen i'm gonna look into one of those bluetooth gateways.

If left in one place in the house, signal should be fine. Only certain rooms are bad.

Well I believe the phone is suppose to automatically connect to WiFi when available.

Yeah but at least for the iphone, only data goes over the wifi. Voice still goes over the cell network.
(unless you install a third party application on your iphone like iCall)

I would think that if the G1 had the ability to do voice over wifi, they would hype it as being part of the tmobile@home product line which they don't.

Hopefully iCall or similar will come out for android.

Official reply from T-Mobile! Great news!

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to contact T-Mobile
Customer Care. My name is Jacqueline. I apologize for the delay in this
response. I understand that you would like to know if the T-Mobile G1
will work with T-Mobile Unlimited HotSpot calling. I will gladly provide
    the information you need today!

Ben, I am sure you will be happy to know that the G1 is UMA capable
which means that you will be able to make and receive calls through a
    Wi-fi connections when available.

You can find out more about the G1 and even preorder online at
    www.t-mobileg1.com.
    Sweet!

    From the T-Mobile Expanded FAQ:

Is it compatible with the HotSpot @Home service?

No. Unlimited HotSpot Calling (formerly named T-Mobile HotSpot @Home) is not available on the T-Mobile G1, although the device can browse the Web over high-speed wireless connections including Wi-Fi and T-Mobile's 3G network.

Personally, I don't care about the 'Unlimited' part since i don't pay for that.

I just want it to work over UMA. Notice that my rep did NOT say it was compatible with Unlimited Hotspot Calling -- all she said is that it is UMA capable and that you can make and recieve calls over wifi. Technically parsed, this does not even conflict with the T-Mobile FAQ, which says it doesn't support the Unlimited service.
