    Default Tmo - Project Black

It’s been a while since we’ve heard something REALLY BIG. Well the guys over at PhoneArena have recieved word from a tipster, that T-Mobile is about to shake up the status quo of the U.S. cellular industry. T-Mobile employees are being trained tomorrow for “Project Black”. This mysterious but catchy sounding name is supposed to be something so BIG for T-Mobile USA, that it is expected to lift T-Mobile out of 4th place among the nation’s wireless operators (Take that Sprint). PhoneArena has stated those involved in this have signed non-disclosure agreements, so this looks to be huge. Also their tipster also claims expect a 3G enabled BlackBerry (9700 anyone?) headed to T-Mobile by Christmas time. The tipster also bumped into an ex-Nokia Rep who revealed to him that, there will be 2 “N” Series Smartphones headed for T-Mobile USA early next year, one of them being the N900 with Maemo5. He says to expect more high-end Nokia devices headed for Magenta in the future. It looks like T-Mobile subscribers just won the Lottery! Sound off in the comments!

I want the Android OS to adapt a media platform like Itunes or somewhere to buy HD movies and such fun other things.

    Hell.
Give me a battery that lasts 2 days.
    HD
    1000HGZ processor
    Same QWERY as the g1.

And I'll never need a new phone again.

I made a list a couple of days ago for someone asking what we need in terms of phones and my list was mostly what yours was plus some.

    1ghz+ processor
HD with full integrated multitouch as far as iPhone has it
a MINIMUM of 2 days battery life, while keeping it interchangeable
Larger standard memory, at least 8gb standard
FAR FAR FAR better WIFI antenna, we need the WIFI range of a laptop
    Little bit thinner
Better Browser, all phones need one, none are perfect yet

In terms of T-mo we need AT LEAST 3G everywhere and a much MUCH better cell network. We have the cheapest bills as of last year now its getting tough with AT&T having 10 numbers to call, Verizon having the same, and now Sprint has unlimited to everyone. T-Mo needs a better network with more calling areas as well as AT LEAST 10 free numbers if not everyone or 20 free calls. IF they want to compete they must at LEAST one up everyone else b/c we are in last place b/c of our crappy network when it comes to coverage areas.

yah I traded in the rooted White G1 for the droid and I could not be happier. The continuous 3G on verizon is to my liking but the bill is not....

After thinking about it and reading what others heard about "Project Black", not much different, I thought of what they could be doing.

To overtake another carrier they would have to be doing something gigantic like a merger. The big thing is that b/c they are training staff it cannot be a market expansion or something if it requires training staff.

I would also assume they are going to match or at least come close to matching Sprint's Any Mobile, Anytime plan.

This has me very interested as it sounds extreme if they really plan to move up in the network. Hopefully it concerns larger coverage area and larger data network.

The one BIG BIG thing I could really think of is an iPhone on T-mo. Considering what it has done for AT&T making them a huge power even though their network is junk. Its not great considering i love the android OS but I definitely think that it would be huge if they got the iPhone simply b/c of all the Apple fanboys that want one but hate the huge fees AT&T tags on.

Just spitballing some random ideas as I am for some reason super excited about T-Mo finally having big news. its been forever since they have done anything big. The G1 was the last big thing they did and that was 1 year ago.

yes supposedly t-mobile is going to buy out sprint. doing this t-mobile will be the second largest carrier in the U.S. taking the lead in front of At&t...this right now is pretty much rumor and nothing will happen over night but i actually work at radioshack and there might be some truth to this rumor. i say this because before we started selling t-mobile we carried just sprint and at&t. and radioshack had a contract with at&t stating that sprint can be it's only competitor for the contract they signed...now all of a sudden radioshack carries t-mobile!?! this comes to the conclusion that t-mobile and sprint made some kind of deal to go through a loophole with the at&t contract with radioshack. also i was talking to my t-mobile representive about this and he told me that the father company of t-mobile..which is Deutsche Telekom made a bid to buy sprint. soo all this "rumor" stuff could have some truth to it. but again...something like this will not happen over night...just like when sprint bought over nextel. it took some time to do this...but as far as i know sprint is eventually going to do away with nextel...leaving perfect room for t-mobile lol

If radioshack had a deal like that with AT&T then they could NOT sell T-Mobile phones unless a deal was finalized which it is not b/c it would have to be made public for the shareholders and interested partners. So no radioshack does not have a deal like that, or they are not selling T-mobile.

I mentioned merger above as a possible theory BUT the big thing which you can find simply by typing into Google the Merger with sprint theory is that they are two different servers, ie CDMA and GSM. It would take a LOT and i mean A LOT to merge the two before they are using 4G and even then they have plans for two different 4G networks that are not compatible.

Not saying this cannot happen but there are huge things that have to be taken care of first and as of the last round of talks that were made public T-Mo and sprint were unsure of how to "quickly" integrate both networks.

Lastly they would NOT be second in the carrier world they would still be third. AT&T has 78.2m users and T-Mo and Sprint would have 78m combined. So still in third. DT only commented about buying Sprint b/c T-mo sales were down and if DT buys Sprint they will have the second largest provider in Europe. Sprint stocks also rose 11% the day talks were "suspected". Which means sprint is worth more and thus the price would have reflect that.
