A possible suggestion...

I would like to make a suggestion for an addition to the site. Now I'm not sure how allot of people may feel about this, but because of my love for AC, I would like to suggest a Pd. membership. Now before anyone goes flaming me, let me explain.

I belong/belonged to several other forums for numerous different reasons. One thing on a few sites that I enjoy, is having a "closed" area for those that support the forum. Basically, this is how it breaks down:

$5/mo, $25 for 6 months, ect..ect. You set it up how you think will work best. This donation, if you will, gives the donator a custom icon under thier name to show they are a supporter. Also, it gives them access to a locked forum that only donators have access to. This could be used for a lounge, trusted sellers, pretty much anything really. Another thing that I have seen is special promotions. This could be a promotion code for an extra 5% off, giveaways, a discount program, 1 site I belong to picks a name at random once a month and sends the winner a T-shirt, bumper sticker....something site related to show off. In return, we are showing our loyalty and support by helping to offset AC's costs of server maint., upgrades, fee's ect.

I know that Android is built on the idea of open source and free information, That is not what this is about. It's a way for us to show our love, respect and support for the best Android forum on the net. I think that us that are die hards and that really want to see AC to continue, will surely agree and want to help out in any way possible. I could be off base though and if I am, I apologize in advance. This is just a simple thought I had and surely something that I personally would gladly do. Lord knows how much work Const and the rest of the team put into this site and forum. I for one would like to show my apreciation and help in any way that I can.

Thanks for your suggestions Griemar. The primary reason AC is online is to help people that uses and loves android platform, I don't think it would be right for us to charge for it. While we are happy that members would like to donate, it would be awesome if the donation could go directly to the moderators and contributors. They are the reason this community is so awesome.

Thanks for your replies. I understand fully what your saying, however i think you miss understood me. I'm not suggestion the entire site be "paid". I'm mearly suggestion the option to donate to AC and in return for that support, have a "perk".

I can provide an example to view per request since I wont openly post links to other forums (even though the example isnt Android related). I only offer this since it seems that I'm slightly misunderstood. If not, again no worries. I'll leave it go from here. It's only an idea after all
