Just got my G1 today and getting used to it, but the screen when closed does not seem to seat properly so I'm wondering if mine is defectiveor if anyone else's does this:
When the phone is closed, if I touch the lower right corner of the screen there is a click as the top piece touches the bottom, there is a small gap, the screen part does not fit snugly against the bottom (keyboard section). If I press somewhere else then the screen separates slightly and then I can press the bottom right again and have a slight click and can feel it move. Sort of like the screen is floating a bit above the base of the phone.
Hope that makes sense. Anyone else have this or is it just I got a bad one? It is a bit annoying when you are pressing on the screen and can feel and slightly hear the click of the top (screen section) hitting the bottom (keyboard section). This is only noticeable when the phone is 'closed'. I would think the workmanship would be better but have nothing to compare it to, I've only used flip phones in the past, switching from a razr to this G1.
Thanks,
Eric

I am having the same issue, but only if you touch the bottom right of the screen. my Wing did the same thing kind of. so im not to worried about it.
I dont hear any clicks on mine, except for when my keyboard is opened all the way. Sounds like you might want to get that checked out. It should be a smooth slide opening.
mine dose it too but not really worried about it
Mine does it too. It's pretty bad... like almost a 1mm of travel. The screen rocks back and forth. This has been noted on other forums also. I'm thinking of finding some really really thin rubber feet to super glue in a couple of strategin places, but I may just hit up T-Mob for another phone and see how that does. Otherwise, it's the only problem with mine.

I think everyone else has been complaining about a creaking sound when they press down on the lower right corner of the screen. Not a click. The screen creak is caused by a tiny plastic lip on the upper right corner of the "chin". You have to partially open your screen to be able to see it and even then it is tiny.
When the screen is closed, it's lower right corner comes into contact with this little plastic lip. the creaking noise is caused by the corner of the screen rubbing against the lip. There are 2 ways to make it stop. You can use an exacto "hobby" knife to VERY CAREFULLY scrape or trim down the plastic lip. Once it's been shaved down to the level of the rest of the chin, the creaking should stopped. It worked like a charm for me. Not a peep out of my screen! And if done right, you cannot tell that anythings been cut.
The other method involves cutting down 2 little strips of thin black felt with adhesive backing down to size and sticking them to both the left and right top parts of the "chin". I didn't try this method but others have said that it works.
Hope this helps!
Mine is a black one and it has the loose screen, but no creaking noise.
I have read on Tmo's forum that the screen on bronze are more snug fitted.
Bronze G1 owners please confirm...
I fixed my creaking issue (Bronze G1) by cutting a small piece of BestSkinEver I had leftover from a previous phone and putting it on the raised rib (barely noticeable) on the lower, right corner where the screen and base meets.
Live with it like me.
