I can't hang, I'm just going to look for someone to handle this for me
IMPORTANT! This is for advanced users only! Do not do this unless you fully understand what could happen if something goes wrong! I have done this at my own risk with no problems, but this doesn't mean you will not have any problems!
YOU CAN RUIN YOUR PHONE BY DOING THIS! BE FOREWARNED!
Also, if you have to ask for help, you don't need to be doing this!
This essentially turns your phone into a dev g1 phone, only without the sim unlock, which you can get from T-mobile, and without the back cover.
It seems that as soon as the dev version of the G1 was announced some people went on a mission to allow us with modified rc30 phones, with root access, to upgrade our phones to have the same unlocked bootloader that the dev G1 has. Here is a quote from the source:
Courtesy dream_kill (who got a unit with an engineering bootloader as a warranty replacement - way to go Tmob, give it to a hacker..), cmonex and JesusFreke, we now have an engineering bootloader reflasher in the wild. All it takes is root (sorry guys, still no RC30 hacks.) Want to get it too?
All you need is to apply the attached update.zip (courtesy JesusFreke) to an already-hacked G1. Thats it. (It is signed with the test keys, so if you have JF's rc30 it will Just Work.) But first.. a
BIG HUGE BOLD BLINKING FREAKING WARNING:
If this goes wrong, you WILL DESTROY YOUR PHONE. Seriously. It will go PTHHTHTH. So don't interrupt it, don't let the battery die, etc.
Once its installed, boot with power+camera to see the Androids on Skateboards instead of the simple tri-color boot loader. (Where to go from there is the subject of a future post.)
Here is the link for the update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...9&d=1228630086
If you have the modified rc30 update then you should know how to do this:
Rename the file to update.zip, remember on windows you may need to name it update rather than update.zip because windows hides known extension file type, move the file to your phones sdcard, reboot into recovery mode by holding the power+home buttons, and then press alt+s.
The update should go rather quickly and to see if it worked, turn off the phone and then hold the power+camera button to turn the phone back on and boot into the bootloader. You should see an android dude on a skateboard and thats it!
Now all I gotta do is get my hands on one of those back covers.

Where can I get a copy of the entire firmware of the Dev G1? I'm not looking to gain root access, just want to be able to test the Dev's software against the unlocked T-Mo's version to see what the differences are.
I'm guessing the attached bootloader works on the modified RC30, but what about the unmodified one? If RC30 a generic release or is it specific to T-Mo?
I'm currently on RC30 (not the hacked one)

If you are on the official RC30 right now, you are SOL.
The only differences with the dev phone is as follows:
Sim unlocked.
unlocked bootloader which allows you to flash unsigned updates, etc.
The dev phone does not come with any carrier specific applications, such as the my favs app.
And a cool looking back cover.
These are the only differences.
SIM unlocked - check, mine (i believe) is SIM-unlocked
Unlocked bootloader - don't really need it
No carrier specific applications - that would be nice
Cool looking back cover - not important to me
Question is, with the dev version, how do we get firmware updates?
Firmware updates will still be handled by google.
Alrighty, so where can i get a copy of the dev OS/firmware?
Not available yet.
